Treatment to depression and ADHD

Hi,

Due to complex PTSD that I didn't treat before, I've been struggling to treat my depression. I already have a psychiatrist for about 3 years who has been trying to help me with medication, but my depression is drowning me and he doesn't know how to help me, as we've already tried lots of different meds and treatments. The case is that he's specialist in ADHD treatment and I was wondering if I should look for another psychiatrist specialist in depression and keep both doctors? My GP said that because I have a long and complex mental health issues and I'm taking lots of prescribed meds, she doesn't feel confident to change my treatment, once a psychiatrist would be more suitable to my case. I've tried different meds and therapy for quite a while, but I'm still struggling with the depression that is destroying my life. What you guys think about it? Any suggestions to help?

Hello POM86

welcome to the forums.

Are you able to talk to your current Psychiatrist about the idea of finding another Psychiatrist who could better meet your needs? Could he help you with that? Maybeyour GP could help, too?

I think, given you have said your current Psychiatrist hasn't been able to help you with the depression, is reason enough to consider another Psychiatrist. Whether or not you decide to continue to see your current Psychiatrist is another discussion to have.

The help I've had over the years has been less about meds & more about the 'talking therapies', & changing how I think about myself & my past & the world around me, & finding ways of managing symptoms & how I respond to things I experience in my life.

You are certainly welcome to talk here, to seek out the information on this website, too.

I wish you well, & hope we'll talk again.

Hey Pom86.

Getting a second opinion is never a bad thing to try. Speaking to a psychologist would also be a good idea as depression is managed by behavioural therapy and medications as a combination therapy.

Hope this helps.
