Struggling with life at the moment. I've had to move a few times this year. Facing homelessness. I feel a sense of hopelessness and I can't function like usual. I feel anxious about the future.

Hi Sunflower,
It’s incredibly tough to be facing homelessness. I think when we feel overwhelmed it can become hard to function. It’s like our nervous system kind of freezes because of the feelings of overwhelm. I think that is a normal response to the circumstances.
Have you been able to access any housing support services? Also, do you have anyone you can connect with or talk to? What I have found is that if I can find even one person to connect with, or a sense of support somewhere, it’s like my nervous system begins to unfreeze and it starts to become possible to see ways forward and make decisions again.
I don’t know if you are with Centrelink, but if you are you may be able to get some assistance via a social worker. This was offered to me when I was still on Jobseeker but I was in a bad way. I also had support from a psychologist at the time but the idea of the social worker is someone who can spend more time with you and help with daily practicalities. However, I was on the disability support pension not long after that and didn’t end up using the service. But it might be an option for you.
I have been gradually learning myself to stay in the present moment more and that is helping me have less anxiety about the future. It’s like developing a kind of calmness and space where if I can do small things today in a direction that supports myself it already starts creating a more stable future, if that makes sense?
Feel free to share more if you wish to, but only as much as you want to share on a public forum. I am just wondering what options are available to you depending on your circumstances. I don’t know if there are any potential employment options or whether you may be struggling with health issues or other difficult circumstances. But whatever is happening I wish you the best and know you can chat here if you need to.
Kind regards,
Eagle Ray
