Hi,
I am a mental health worker and i am supporting a young man who is struggling with depression. Just wondering if anyone knows any support groups running in Canberra to help him to get better.

Dear JJacob~
Welcome to the forum. Support groups can be excellent
Perhaps you - or maybe your client, if able, might like to try:
https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/resources-support/support-groups/
or
https://kidshelpline.com.au/get-help/webchat-counselling (if under 25)
and also our own 24/7 help line
https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/talk-to-a-counsellor
Hopefully something there may assist. My apologies if you have already thought of these

Welcome to the forums JJacob and thankyou for the work you do for our precious YOUTH!
Canberra was THE place I learnt how to Meditate decades ago. It was a place FULL of places we could learn to Meditate. So exciting!
Since we now know that Depression is most often caused by ruminating over the past.... mindfulness techniques such as Meditation are powerful techniques to bring us back to the NOW.
NOW is where we can find the peace of mind to create a far better future, healing in all sectors etc etc.
I invite you to watch the Testimonials of the works Dr Joe Dispenza has on his YouTube Channel.
Backed by Scientific Research collected by Medically Trained sceptics (lol), it's an indisputable fact now that we can heal ourselves via Meditation.
I'd be wary of joining anyone up to a group where everyone else has depression. The whole "misery loves company" thing I'd be concerned about.
I'd be more inclined to encourage him to get "linked in" with pursuits that promote WELLNESS.
Reading up on Brene Brown's research could help you, help him create a wholehearted life.
Lastly, which could have been Firstly lol, making a HABIT of practicing daily self-care and GRATITUDE are also backed by research to improve ANYONE'S mental health and wellbeing.
Feels like I could be preaching to the converted here, but those are my TOP must haves in a Wellbeing kit!
Best wishes,
Love EM
