Hello Doonzy, and a warm welcome to the site and what you have mentioned is a situation that can easily and unfortunately happen to anyone and I'm so sorry, this is exactly what you have suffered from and also apologise for your thread being missed out on from no replies, this may happen when the forums are busy.
The services around the town you've been looking at, are for immediate help and that puts you into this category and there is no reason why you shouldn't be included because you are at a point where you can't see any return to being happy.
I'm not sure this includes contacting your doctor or whether you have been to see them, because you need to be referred to a psychologist using the mental health plan, this entitles you to 10 Medicare paid sessions per year, and if there isn't anybody in your town or they have been booked out, then maybe someone is available in the next town/city.
You may have to travel 30 minutes but in reality, that time means nothing.
Contact the Beyond Blue support line 1300 22 4636, Respect 1800 737 732 and I hope others will provide other contact details or if you can type this in your browser 'contact sites for depression' then the appropriate information will appear, I only say this because I have to go out but will reply later on.
Best wishes.
Geoff.
