Should I seek help for a delusional period that stopped nine years ago?

When I was fourteen I started believing bizarre delusions that were implausible, such as that I was being watched by the world, and that objects could communicate with me. I also had very excited, energised feelings. I managed to stop those delusions somehow when I was fifteen, but I’m just wondering if it sounds like something to be concerned about now, even if I haven’t been affected by delusions in a long time.

Hi Alannah57

It is great that you have come to get a check on your mental health here and to chat and to discuss things that you have been through, welcome.

My thoughts on this and keep in mind I am no professional and not an expert in any of this is that we all go through things at times of our lives, what you went through does sound very serious and it is wonderful you were able to manage this time in your life. It was just that, a time in your life and it does not define who you are or what the future looks like, it may never ever happen again, and it might happen again, who knows, but the point I am trying to make it that if it impacts your life today then I would suggest addressing it and perhaps making an appointment with even a cousellor or your GP to have a chat about it, get it off your chest.

Like colds and flu and broken bones they happen in our life, as does mental illness, it sometimes stays for a short time and sometimes stays for a long time, the thing is that only you will know if you need to address this today in your life, if it takes alot of time out of your life by thinking about it and worrying about it, it never hurts to have a chat with a professional, ever.

I hope to chat to you some more and I am so happy to hear you haven't been effected by these in a long time.

Hugs to you Alannah57
