Overthinking and exhausted

Not sure where to start.  But I have had depressions for 20 years. Been on meds most of that.  Problem is I constantly battle negative thoughts and over thinking   I am currently going through marriage counseling and this came up   My husband was shocked to hear this   I explained that I am constantly thinking and hard for me to switch off so when I can't wind down that's why   Not sure why I am posting this but just wanted to say it    Not sure what to do

Dear Annie

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you for coming here and providing your post.

You are not on your own with what you’ve described – it’s a very common theme when as a result of battling negative thoughts, over thinking things, it is one factor that causes depression (and depressive thoughts).

Now despite you having been on meds for the majority of those 20 years, it appears that your husband wasn’t aware of your battle?  Did I assume this correctly?   If he is now aware of your long-standing battle, do you feel that he’ll be there as a positive support for you?

And while it’s a very positive measure to take with regard to the marriage counselling that you’re having, I do hope that you’ve been able to seek your own counselling sessions with a psyche of some sort over this time as well??

I might quickly make mention of your meds as well.  Do you feel they are working for you?   And if you’ve been on the same kind for a long time now, it might be well worth getting back to your GP to seek a review of them??

Again thanx for posting and I do hope you can post back again.

Neil
