No feeling

I am wondering if it's common to have no feeling.... I don't feel sad, more matter of fact that there's no point.... Honestly think family would be better off if I wasn't here...no enjoyment for anything... apathetic about self care. Cynical about everything

Hey Sheesh,

A warm welcome to the forums,

We can hear how low and empty you've feeling today. We acknowledge how uncomfortable these feelings can be to process and manage. We don't think it's uncommon to have these feelings, although if they continue to persist it might be something you'd like to speak with a general practitioner about. They may be able to recommend some options for support.

If you feel that it would be beneficial to you to talk through your feelings with a counsellor, please, contact the Beyond Blue Support Service anytime on 1300 22 4636 or get in touch with us on Webchat 3pm-12am AEST here: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport. One of the friendly counsellors can offer you some short-term support but also provide you with advice and referrals for seeing a counsellor in a more ongoing way if that's something you feel might be helpful to you.

We hope that a few of our members will pop by with some words of wisdom for you. Welcome again!

Hey,

I am sorry that you are feeling this way.

I just want to say that you are valuable to this world. The world needs you to show up today. You are powerful. What you believe can change the world.

If you need to speak to someone about what you are going through, A psychologist is a good option. Otherwise Beyond blue offers a phone service 1300 22 4636.

Hope you are staying safe. Chat if you need.

HI there Sheesh and welcome to the forums!

The lovely SophiaM mentioned someone may give you words of wisdom - I'm not all all sure I can do that, but here are a few thoughts anyway.

So you are not sad, not happy but can't feel anything is important or worth doing. I thinks heaps of us feel like that from time to time. A kind of 'can't be bothered' feeling. I have achieved quite a lot in my life yet still get days like that so don't stress out thinking you are the only one!

I have found a couple of things help - one is a daily routine that trains you mind in not only starting, but moving from one thing onto another each day. The second is an activity that generates goals for your mind to think about, even subconsciously. Can be things like a sporting group, book club, activity group like 'MeetUp', learning a musical instrument, daily exercise like walking or a bike ride.

All those things have a kind of built in goal that may help you to think that it's worthwhile getting better at it.

Anyway, I hope these thoughts help a little bit and you feel like doing a little more soon.

Kind regards, The Bro

Hi The Bro,

I've been feeling like that lately too- I think it's worse because of the lockdown and it's super hard to stay motivated and passionate about little day to day things. I think switching up your everyday routine and trying out new activities, books, music also will help.

You need to allow yourself to not feel anything for a little while. I think speak to a counsellor/psychologist if this emptiness persists, but it's totally normal for you to feel this way- especially in these tough times!

Hello Sheesh, I'm not sure but this may be called anhedonia, although I'm not a doctor to say, by having no feeling in your life is not having the incentive to want to achieve anything, nor want of respect about your own self care, nor any enjoyment in life and has different degrees and may only be temporary, but when it continues on, then everything else seems to jump on board and you can develop depression.

Can I ask how long has this feeling been with you, and only answer if you want to.

Geoff.

You ask how long... Unfortunately it's been longer than I can remember... Worse over the last 8 months. I'm sick of feeling this way and can't see a way of improving things.

Thanks for replying. Those are very wise words!

Yes lockdown has amplified things a lot - however there is light at the end of the tunnel.
