For the last month or so I have had little motivation to do anything and i think losing my job almost 2 months ago is a main contributor to this since i now barely leave the house. lately I’ve been in bed all day finding myself in tears for no reason or just crying of the smallest things. I’m doing an online course and the past few weeks i open it and no matter how hard i try i just can’t get myself motivated to do it or i get distracted straight away. Im beginning to have massive fallouts with my family and pushing them away. But in saying this i go out with my friends at least 3 times a week at night and I’m happy i also eat and sleep normally. i did the checklist test on this website out of curiosity and i got 30 which I’m very surprised about because i was honestly just thinking I’m just having a few bad days…. i just don’t know what to think

Dear MomentaryHappiness (MH)
Thank you for providing your post on here and also welcome to Beyond Blue.
You are not alone with these feelings and thoughts and how you're acting - it's something that a lot of us either experience on a daily basis or have done so.
It's great that you've made the step to come here and post and then another positive step you've done is to take the checklist test.
If I may suggest another step forward for you now would be to actually go and seek out professional help. Either by going to your own GP or on this site, Beyond Blue have a list of GP's available - you can do a search on these, which'll hopefully bring up one or two in your local area. The thing with these GP's is that they are skilled in assisting with mental health issues - and from that, they can give a full diagnosis - and with possible referral for further assistance, if they think that might be the way to go.
With regard to your course, is it possible to try and set aside some set times (not big chunks of time) during the day. Perhaps at the same time of day that might be when you're feeling a little more fresh? Keep it at the same time, so you know that this will be when you're due to study. And if it's a short time, you know that you can really focus your attention for that short period.
It's great to read that you're eating well and your sleep pattern is a good one as well. Big positives there MH.
Again, great to hear from you and I do look forward to hearing back from you.
Neil

Losing a job is a huge change in life, so it is normal to feel down, however you may need advice from a gp, as to wether you need some help. It sounds great that you are doing an on line course, but these can be hard as you aren't in a classroom as such, so you don't get to meet and mix with others. It's great that you are still going out with friends, perhaps tell them about your course, and they may be enthused which will help you to keep at it. On line courses can be overwhelming, but focus on the goal of what you would like to achieve by doing it. Break it into little bits and dedicate a certain amount of time to it a day, keeping in mind your goal, and why you started in the first place.

Hi momentaryhappiness,
Welcome to the forums, they're a great place to seek support and advice, as almost all of us here have had shared or similar experiences.
I can see that Neil and oneofakind have provided some useful tips in terms of taking the next step and seeking professional support, which is great.
I also wanted to point out that there's a couple of threads that you might like to browse, where community members have shared some tips on getting through dark times, and finding motivation. You may find some of the suggestions useful in terms of reinvigorating your personal motivation. It's certainly something that dips significantly when we are experiencing depressive symptoms.
