Does anyone here with bipolar ever get sick of the way medication makes you feel numb? Mine turns off all my feelings and I hate it. I also hate the way it slows down my thinking. I can't think if I'm put on the spot or if someone asks me a question or makes a joke.

Hi, welcome

I tried several before settling on a mood stabiliser and small dose of anti depressants (we can’t mention brands etc).

What I can say is that once the meds take effect (6-8) weeks, it won’t eliminate the swinging moods from hypomania to depression only smother them somewhat. Because of that we tend to alter dosages (with GP/Psych advice/ accordingly. That’s not ideal.

The level of dosage I sought was that it introduced significant resistance to the mood swings but did not get that high it acted like a tranquilizer.

Side effects of all the meds I tried were similar- foggy mind, slow to think, easily distracted and short fuse.

Ive been on meditation for 10 years. I’ve embraced my bipolar as being part of me that does have unique positives like creativity, inventiveness and my poetry.

Google famous people with mental illness and the list is long.

Hi Pink.Kitty

Welcome too! I understand your feelings on meds as I felt similar to yourself when I started on my meds for my mental health problems.. as TonyWK mentioned above they do take a few weeks to get used to

Just for myself the meds helped me help myself reduce the bulk of my issues...my personal life and career also improved so much when using my doc in conjunction with the meds

The forums are a safe and judgement free place for you Pink.....any questions are always welcome! There are many super gentle people that can be here for you too

my kind thoughts

First I want to say welcome pink kitty and second I’m experiencing all those symptoms you’ve mentioned in your reply right now white knight and I’ve been on the lowest dosage of the antidepressant I’m on since a week before covid 19 was first. Where is from back then I just experienced like I’d either had way to much coffee or sugar and something else which does not come to my mind right now but both were very very minor side effects of them. And that was dealing with having GORD (the autoimmune side of acid reflux) which I did not know it was that at the time on top of having coeliac disease.
