Hi all,

Has anyone left their job due to mental health illness?

My depression and anxiety it currently out of control, and is severely impacting my performance at work. I am scared to bring this up with my employer due to their inability to understand mental health illness and conditions.

However, I am at the point the work is effecting my sleep and eating patterns, time with my children, I sleep all the time and I I am the unhealthiest I have ever been and I am constantly in bed with migraines.

I work closely with a psychologist on a regular basis, however I am trying to find real life examples.

If anyone has any experience or has left work due to mental health, it would be great to hear from you.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Hi there

Are you on medication for depression? If you are it doesnt sound like its working for you maybe a change is needed. I personally tried many diff meds until I found one that worked for me ( Until now ) Many people are more open to our problem than you realize. A good GP is very important and you need to tell them if treatment is working or not. Good luck and keep working if you can as home no work is a lot worse than working.

I’ve just been pressured into resigning from a job I held for over 7 yrs due to my declining mental health and general health condition that was triggered by management treatment of me over a 3 month period & started whilst I was on Annual Leave.

I know barely leave my house &/or stay within my area close to my house

unable to do normal daily tasks

broken sleep

anxiety and depression (GAD & Social Anxiety)

anti depressant medication doesn’t work

loss of friends/contacts

withdrawn from society

sudden mood changes

inability to trust people

constantly on edge (jumpy)

feelings of worthlessness and lack of confidence
