I think I'm depressed

Recently I've found that I'm not really looking forward to anything. At the moment the only thing I really look forward to is adopting a cat. It's something I've always wanted to do and bring me a lot of joy to think about, but I realised that when I look to the future that's all I can think of. I have no real dreams or aspirations just the feeling of having to get things done. I'm worried I'm really depressed and the only thing keeping me going is an imaginary cat. I don't know what to do. For reasons I can't really say I don't have access to therapy, and I'm worried I'll find a reason not to want said imaginary cat and have nothing to live for at all.

It’s so difficult to feel this way. Most of my life I have been motivated not by wanting to move toward things but by trying to avoid awful things. I have spent most of my life going through the motions of trying to stay alive while wondering if I even want to be alive. If you can, try to get your cat. Animals can bring an incredible amount of joy and purpose to our lives. The fact that your mind has held onto the idea of the cat shows that you do have the desire to keep going and also reveals your compassion and need for connection. It may be that you are depressed, but you aren’t alone in feeling depressed and there are ways to cope. Be good to yourself.
