Hi all
I've been officially diagnosed with BP disorder....
any tips?
Ps - I got asked today 'are you taking your medication' my answer 'of course I am!!!!' the response --- change of tone.
*venting* Why do people ask you if your ok then are not prepared for the answer. Sometimes I think I'm better off lying just to make people happy.
Cheers 🙂 keeping positive xo

Hi
I have bipolar 2, depression, dysthymia and history of anxiety that has dwindled away.
Clearly my major continuing personal issue is with people. I've cone to the conclusion that only bipolar effected people understand what that illness is like to have.
Im tired of the perception people have. So yes, I feel alone with this crippling restriction. I'd reckon I'm quite stable now but as you'd know, you still go up and down and the moods are instant.
Good to hear you remain positive.

Hiya Yoga, welcome hun!
When you say BP disorder do you mean borderline personality disorder or bipolar? Just wondering, sometimes people use BP to mean bipolar.
Like Tony I have bipolar disorder type 2. And I agree with you Tones that only fellow bipolars really understand it. (I'm always glad to have you around, not that I wish it on you, but you know what I mean, a fellow traveller.)
Yoga, I think labels are useful in terms of diagnosis and helping us learn about our condition. Like, people with diabetes would say they're diabetic, not just that they have a physical illness. But that should be where it ends. It should not define us, or allow people who don't understand to think they 'know what we're like' or stigmatise us.
I disclosed at work that I'm bipolar and looking back I know that that frightened a lot of people. And, six months later I was made redundant even though there was a position I could have moved into. I'd been labelled, no question.
I'm glad you're keeping positive hun - absolute best thing you can do ... when you can.
You're in good company on the forum, and I hope you'll keep talking to us.
Cheers
Kaz

Hi Yoga. Absolutely adore your chosen name. I have PTSD, like you, as soon as someone asks me what the problem is (PTSD makes you feel like running away from confrontations). You mention PTSD, you get the look. I think people ask out of politeness, expecting the usual response which would be 'Hello, I'm fine'. I've found the best reply to 'hello, how are you', is just to say 'Hi, I'm fine'. As for asking if you've taken your AD's, I would just say, 'what do you think?' I agree the question is patronizing, but getting annoyed is making it worse for you. As Tony said 'Sticks and stones'.

Hi Yoga
Thanks for your help on a difficult thread late last night.
I dont want to be a pain here but labels are for soup cans...I get it, and your thread title said it as well!
If I went to 3 different psychologists/psychiatrists next week I would have a many conflicting 'new labels' to come home with....and they will all differ in diagnosis and prescribed meds and therapy required.
What an inspirational post 🙂

Hi Paul
Yes! You are so right. I do agree labels are useful when used in the right way.
I also believe that education and knowledge is power. 😍
Mental heath is a serious issue.

Hey Yoga
no worries at all and thankyou.
It is strange when people ask we are and then they start with advice, especially people that have never had any psychological issues in their life...They care but it can be a frustrating conversation
I hope your week is good to you

Hi Paul
thought it would be nice to let you know I'm going well. Maybe it's the meds maybe it's me who knows I don't care but I'm feeling in control.
Happy Sunday !
