How to stop it before it starts?

Suffering a major depressive episode.

I do nothing except sleep all day. Don’t leave the house, don’t shower or brush hair, don’t grocery shop, don’t eat right & basically just don’t care.

I have never abused alcohol in the past, in fact I rarely drink. But tonight I am sitting here & finding it very hard to not crack open the bottle of vodka & just losing myself to oblivion.

How so I stop this before it starts? I don’t want to fall down that hole

Hey there

Sorry you’re feeling this way. Such a crappy feeling. Can you pinpoint a trigger at all? I wish I had an answer to your question - I usually end up in the hole before I realise that’s where I was going. Then it’s ride it out time…

Do you have any strategies that you’ve had success with before during lows?

Hello TheBigBlue, I feel your compassion because being in this situation is horrible and many of us can certainly relate to how you feel when depression takes over your life.

The thought of starting an addiction is not the best solution, I've tried it and it only caused more problems than I expected, it puts you in another world which is an unrealistic one but the next morning you're back to square one and can make you feel worse because you aren't sure what you did the day before and will increase your chance to fall down the hole much quicker than you want.

If you want to get back to us and you don't have to write an essay but tell us why this has happened.

Take your time and doing this may help you unload some problems.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Hello there thanks for sharing im sorry to hear what your going through

i know you may not feel to do these basic things for yourself but self care is important and can make all the difference, small things can make you feel better like a nice shower etc

Have you ever talked to someone? Seeking help may benefit you whether its booking in with a psych or calling the Beyond blue support service, we are available 24/7 i hope this helps

To be honest, I don’t know what triggered it. Have just felt this way for a few months now.

I do have a psychologist, a psychiatrist & am on meds. But I’m still so………. numb.

Anyway, I succumbed last night. I didn’t know how else to stop the hurt. Tonight I turned to food instead. It’s 1am & I just ate an entire box of cheezels. Yep, that’s healthy 😢

ooo, was just about to write that whatever I am doing is not enough. Lightbulb moment, write that down to speak about with my doctors.

Not that it will change anything. I’ve done the CBT, I’ve done the DBT, I’ve followed my meds, changed my meds (in accordance with the psychiatrist) but nothing ever changes.

I have no idea what else to do

Hello TheBigBlue, can I ask you a question and it may seem to be a silly one, but just interested if you could have left 3 or 4 cheezels in the box and not worry about it.

Just curious.

Geoff.
