HOSPITAL ADMISSION HELP

I’ve been struggling for weeks and have been avoiding hospital at all costs but with my depression and bpd getting harder and harder to manage I need 24/7 monitored support. 2 years ago I had an admission that started in a PAPU Ward, now due to COVID-19 I’m feeling overwhelmed on how to start the process of a short stay. I have no family due to my mum being in Queensland and myself located in Melbourne, my best friend has been my ‘caretaker/support’ the past few weeks but we both believe I need to be in a more safe and secure environment getting treatment from professionals.

Dear Laurexon~

I too would like to welcome you here. Trying to keep on going often means one tries too hard and leaves things longer than one should -a trap I fell into.

Sophie has given you good advice on a place to start.Hopefully they might be able to provide all you wish.

I'm very glad you have a freind who has been your caretaker and support, it will have made an awful lot of difference. It will have been a big strain on your friend too, do they have any form of support themselves, I'd imagine they'd need it?

May I ask if that PAPU stay was in Victoria too, if so it might be another starting point. Victoria does also have Crisis Assessment and Treatment Teams, you get their number from the your local hospital. They too may be able to visit and help.

I think at the moment it is possible to get free telehealth both from GPs and psychiatrists. If you ring round you may well find a facility that can help you in the longer run. I realise at the moment a sort stay in a safe place is top priority, but you will no doubt need medical support eihter before or after and this is an easy way to start it.

The other thing I'd suggest is that if you feel you are becoming too overwhelmed and cannot wait on for a safe place please give the Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467) a ring. They are practical and sensible and can be contacted more than once outwith repeating explanations.

So there are things to try, you will get there. Please let us know how you get on
