Feeling rather flat lately

I've realised I'm feeling quite flat lately and I think depression has been creeping slowly back in. I have a long history of mental health issues with a diagnosis of Bipolar II back in 2011. Medicated since, I've had plenty of hospitalisations over the years but have been stable for the past 5 or so. I recently started reducing some of my medications with my Pyschiatrist and was going fine but have noticed symptoms coming back.

Tiredness, apathy, loss of apetite, inability to concentrate, slowed speech etc just to name a few. I see him in a couple if weeks again so of coyrse I'll bring it up. I'm hoping it passes but would love suggestions if anyone has been in a similar situation as to what they do to bring themselves out of these "slumps". I don't want to go back on more medication and my life is going great otherwise. I have no "reason" to be depressed.

Dear Mood_Swinger~

Welcome back to the Forum and I'm sorry to hear that your symptoms are starting to return.

I know you reduced your dosage was because you felt they might not be necessary any longer and did so under the advice of a psychiatrist. I have done exactly the same thing. I felt good and had done so for a long time so assumed my original conditions had been 'fixed', I also did not want to take tablets for ever. My psychiatrist said give it a try.

Things did not go well and my old symptoms started to return and I consulted with my psychiatrist and returned to the original medication dosages. Doing this was not as straightforward as I'd hoped but eventually settled down to where I was before I did the  reduction. Again I feel fine and have dome so ever since. I don't find taking medication is much of a hassle, as I'm lucky and have few side effects.

Everyone is different, so maybe it is the effects of tailing off, then again it may be like me you do need the meds. Talking it over at your next visit with your psych -if not before - is a wise thing to do. I hope you have a more professional one than you had in 2014.

So I guess it is a set of judgment calls made between you and your prescriber, if one should talk earlier, if the experiment is worth continuing (which may depend on your mental state), or if you should cease the reduction attempt.

If you would like ot say how you get on that would be great
