Does anyone else feel the same?

I’m not sure what the feeling is but I’ve felt strange for over 7 years. I go through waves of feeling great to being extremely down to the point that arguments take over my emotion and make me feel so low to the point life is not worth feeling these emotions anymore. Because it comes in such waves and isn’t consistent, I’ve struggled to seek help with this because quickly I can feel fine and I think it must be a ‘blip’. Does anyone else experience this?

This has been me for the past 18 months. I feel extremely down and don’t really feel i want to live life anymore but then all of a sudden i feel fine and back on track. it gives me a false sense of hope which almost makes me feel worse the next time i’m down. i wake up each day different wondering what out of my waves of moods will i feel today.

Hello Rebecca and a warm welcome to the forums.

I can very much relate to the 'ups and downs'. I think we all go through periods in our lives when we feel on top of things and others when we are feeling down. This can be down to many different reasons like being over worked or stressed, not getting enough sleep or looking after our bodies ect. However it's when you say that sometimes your downs can feel like "life is not worth feeling these emotions anymore" that concerns me and I believe that should be more than enough reason to perhaps seek some extra help as you shouldn't have to feel that low.

A good place to start would be to speak with your doctor or GP. Just explain to them as best you can your concerns. It can be hard, I know from personal experience but there is no reason to have to go it alone. Even if you are feeling fine there is absolutely no harm in discussing to over with someone. The forums are great starting point to talk about these things and fact that you have shared your story here is a good first step to getting some answers.

Hello Rebecca, thanks for your comment.

If you are suddenly feeling down it may be difficult for you to know exactly why and when this could happen, simply because we can't plan our day, knowing that at lunch we'll be ok, mental illness doesn't work like this, it can't be planned, to a certain degree.

People who have these moods that fluctuate may have a distinct illness, not that I'm qualified to say, so have you been given a diagnosis by your doctor.

Hope to hear back from you.

Geoff.
