Hi friends
so… lockdown. I’m getting sick of talking about it but honestly, it feels all consuming right now.
For context, when I hear about the most recent Melbourne lockdown I went back to my parents place (I live alone and didn’t want to lockdown by myself) so I had some human interaction while working from home.
For the past week I just can’t shake this feeling of doom and gloom. I’m in such a low mood. I know so many people are feeling this way, but to make it more complicated, I have started to feel incredibly guilt for feeling this way because
i have a safe home
i have a job
I have company in my family
Then I see what’s happening in Afghanistan and I feel awful about myself for wallowing in my own shitty mood
anyone Else feeling like this?

Hi Bella,
Oh yes, definitely! I'm glad that you are here though because you are not alone and sometimes people who are here posting feel like their problems aren't "bad enough" to talk about it.
I think it has to be a balance. It is good to have some perspective at times- like I'm so sorry millionaires who think their bedroom is too small when it's the size of my house. But at the same time all of your feelings are valid and it's understandable that you feel this way. There's no hierarchy of pain. There is no criteria you have to meet to feel low or doomy and gloomy.
Do you think there could be a way for both to co-exist? That what is happening in Afghanistan is terrible and horrifying and sad AND you are allowed to be sad and feel the way that you do. It's not an either or. Your pain is real and valid no matter how privileged you may find yourself.
I hope this helps a little 🙂

Hey rt
Thanks for the reply!
i agree, it’s absolutely about balance. You’re right when you say sometimes you feel like your problems aren’t bad enough. It’s a terrible way that I’ve been raised I think. Always reminded that others have it worse when really, you just need your feelings validated for a minute.
while I’m not glad others feel the gloom and guilt that I do, I’m glad I’m not alone in feeling that way.
would be interested to know how people find that balance and make it sit comfortably for them

Hi Bella,
Thanks for posting! I completely know how you feel...You feel sad and down for being in lockdown but then see the news around the world and think wow, I should feel grateful. But I think you have to remember that these are unprecedented times and we've never been through anything like this before - so you have to cut yourself some slack. Also it's important to remember that just because other's a suffering, that doesn't mean you can't suffer too - when it comes to mental health it's never a competition about whose feeling worse. All you can do is acknowledge how you feel and try and do some little things to make yourself feel better each day.
Stay strong, always here if you need to talk!

Hi Miz
thanks for your reply. Like o said to rt, I’m not happy to hear you’re also feeling this way but it sure is comforting knowing I’m not alone 🙂
are you staying well during lockdown? What are some things you do to keep yourself going?
always happy to chat!
