Hi All,
I am 54 & started drinking at 48 following gastric sleeve surgery. Prior to this I raised three beautiful amazing children & did two degrees to get to my most loved job. I grew up with my father being a violent alcoholic so this has shocked me that i have succumbed to it. In the last 6 yrs I have drank alot of wine. I think trying to numb my feelings. I am an overthinker. Now, my husband, rightfully so, has had it with me. He's a very stoic, stubborn, older man. Very old fashioned. He's very critical of me. We've been married 29.5 yrs.

Hi SisterKiki
I too grew up with an alcoholic father, although he was mostly non-violent. So I know a bit about what it was probably like for you whilst growing up. Less than ideal, to say the least.
I am sorry that you now find yourself with an alcohol problem. It's tough because you more than anyone else understand the dangers and the harm. Some thirty years of marriage, children and a career are a lot to lose. I don't have to tell you what needs to happen here.
I'd like to suggest you start with a double appointment with your GP to discuss your addiction and mental health concerns. No pressure. One day at a time. But I encourage you to start the process. It can get better.
Kind thoughts to you
