I am interested to know the mood disorders amongst offspring of parents with( Bipolar Type 2) as I am looking
to hear of some of their journeys, I understand people can't list specific medication but whatever other information would be interesting and useful for me know.
Cheers

Hi Fred2018,
Just wondering if you yourself are a child of a parent with bipolar t2? What has your journey with this been like. What kind of information would you find most useful?
One of my parents has been diagnosed with that condition however they also have a personality disorder (most probably narcissistic) and this very much complicates matters...

Hi Sistermoon (I think thats the name of a good Fleetwood Mac song btw check it out) Yes I am a child of a great parent with Bipolar 2. My journey has been pretty good my father has been able to live a relatively good life , stable work, had the occasion manic episode and sometimes has issues with anger that we have to deal with but overall I have a good relationship with him. Having it be that mood disorders are usually passed down through families I have had a unipolar (possibly called unipolar mixed features (some bipolar sypmptoms or submanic symptoms they are also called, a new illness put in the DSM) since 18. I have had limited success with antidepressants. So yeah interested to know a bit more about the diagnoses and journeys of people such as yourself who may have also had certain genes passed on to them. I have been lucky to have had the creative gene passed on to me which is a plus for some with bipolar or other mood disorders genes. My father has not had a narcissistic diagnoses I do not believe he lives with that illness.
Cheers

fred,
Thanks for your question.
I am a parent of adult children and I have bipolar so am not what you were asking for but it is interesting to look at other perspectives.
One of my children has a mood disorder. I have been honest with my children and I remember one child saying to me when they were a teenager that wouldn't have known had bipolar if I had not told them.
Do you have any siblings?

Hi Quirky thanks for your reply, ah I do have siblings but they do have a diagnosed lifetime condition as I think that's genetically sometimes what happens. I have been interested to know what times of journeys offspring of bipolar type 2 more specifically but type 1 also to see the sort of diagnoses and medication ( if willing to share in a email) as I have a tricky time finding the best medication. The illness of Unipolar mixed features is apparently quite new, now that they see that mood disorders can cross over in a spectrum unipolar/unipolar mixed/bipolar2/bipolar1. Thats good that you are honest with your children I can understand it may be difficult as some might have had stigma about it and other silly things from uneducated people.
