Antenatal Depression

Hi, I'm 23, 27 weeks pregnant and am suffering from prenatal depression. I have a loving family and partner but I have never felt so alone in my life. I don't resent my child, I just feel numb and severely sad. I am aware that hormones play a particular role, I have been depressed before and I know that how I am feeling is beyond hormonal changes.

I just don't want to feel so isolated and want this pain to go away.

Hi Mariah,

I'm sorry to hear what you are experiencing. You are spot on - hormones play a big role in how you feel, and right now at 27 weeks along, your hormones are going bonkers. There are natural and prescribed remedies which may help, I would most definitely talk to my doctor about this and see what he/she can do for you.

At this stage, getting help from a professional is a good idea. Your baby needs you healthy and happy, so do what you can to get help right now. Don't go it alone. All my best to you.

Hi mariah4,

Welcome to the forums and thank you for having the courage to reach out. I'm sorry that you're going through this.

I highly recommend that you check out PANDA if you haven't already. They do help with post perinatal and antenatal depression. Their website is http://www.panda.org.au/ or you could give them a call on 1300 726 306. As well as offering information and support, they also have online forums so you can chat with other woman going through the same thing and be reminded that you're not alone in this.
