all this help but getting nowhere

nataya
Community Member

I have a great team of help who look after me. I have a case manager and a peer support worker, I am currently waiting for a new psychologist but that may come when the dbt group starts I am not sure on that one.

I still feel iI am getting nowhere even with all this support I am also on medication. I feel all I have learnt is what I can and can not say due to there requirements. I feel I can not be honest about my latest plan, but yet I am still trying to get all this help. I am loosing hope and fast I want to see that this is worth all my time and energy I put in but it feels like it's all been worth nothing I just need some hope but I have lost all mine.......

Dear Nataya

I see you have made a few posts already but I still want to welcome you to Beyond Blue.

It is a little difficult to answer you as I do not know how long you have been (presumably) depressed and what other help you have such as family and friends. It would really be great if you could tell us a little more about yourself.

In the meantime I can positively assure you that it is worth your time and energy to work on getting well. Sometimes we seem to make no progress for a while and the best we can see is that we have not gone backwards. That is a huge positive.

How long have you been on medication? It can take up to several months for medication to be fully effective.  It will not cure your illness but it is intended to help you cope better while you learn strategies for managing.

Another question. How long have you been involved with this support group? Again they are not able to 'cure' you. They are there to support and help you learn, be a shoulder to cry on at times, remind you how far you have already travelled and hold you hand (metaphorically) when the day gets too dark. Trust them as far as possible and say your truths. No one is going to reprimand you for stating your feelings. Others may have a different viewpoint and are equally entitled to state this.

It is important to understand that others see things in you that you cannot yet see.  I have been told for months by my psych that I am capable of managing, but I cannot see it properly.  Even saying that shows that part of me agrees with him, but I am still a little afraid to stand on my own.

It is not an easy or short road. I hope this does not disappoint you too much. You will need friends, courage and love to get going to become whole and healthy.

Can you talk about speaking freely privately with one of your team or the psych when he/she arrives? This is vital for your well-being.

Hold on there and write in again. I hope we can offer you more support and suggestions when we know more about you.

Warm regards

Mary

The dbt group I am meant to be starting is a year long and has a therapist from the group you see as well its ment to be starting June or July.

Hello Nataya

June/July is a long time to wait. Is there any way your doctor can arrange for you to see a psychologist in the meantime?  Your doctor can put you on a mental health plan which will give you ten free visits to a psychologist. Perhaps this can be the start of your journey to well-being.

Can I ask how old you are? Do you work/school/university? Do you live with your family? No need to answer if it makes you uncomfortable.

Please tell us a bit more about your depression. I am interested to know about the person you are.  As the moderator has written above, if you feel miserable try phoning the BB phone helpline. The number is 1300 22 4636.
