Your Username Choice over time...

This is a question mainly for the longterm BB contributers.

I've been going through a LOT of threads, seeing how people are responding to peoples posts.

And I've noticed a lot of great advice coming from members who I can see from their "number of posts" (like in the 1000-3000 range) that they have been dedicated contributers to the website for quite some time (which is awesome).

But I've noticed that some of them have some usernames that while they when they were "newbies" fresh on the block were created for a specific reason back then... are quite amusing now that they are obviously BB veterans.

So my question is...

Do any of you "oldschool" members (regret is not the right word)... wish that they had chosen a different username back then in hindsight? Or wish you could change it to something else now?

I'm just curious.

Hi Unbeliever,

I wish I had got a little more creative but don't regret it in any way. It is part of who I am on the forums and people know me as my username which is fine.

My best for you,

Jay

I should have included in my initial post "How did you choose your username"? or "What inspired it"? As well.

Are you a BasketBall fan Jay?

Hey UB

This is a great post as I was in a bad place when I joined as a member and I tried heaps of names and they were all taken. After about an hour I just posted whatever would come up and 'blondguy' did.

Suffering from a bad run of depression at the time in January 2016 the screen name became secondary....I just wanted to talk to other people that were also going through a dark period. I am super glad that I chose to stick around as there are so many gentle people on the forums that have been here for me

The longer we leave an existing name the harder it is to change as we become known to so many its counter productive to change it after a few hundred posts.....(I am stuck with mine ;-))

Sorry to get off your thread topic UB. Its really great to have your input on the forums...Nice1!

My kindest thoughts UB

Paul

You didn't go off topic at all.

Your answer was exactly what I was curious about.

Good job.

Oh, I should probably say that the username I selected was based on a book series by Stephen Donaldson that I read in primary school where the main character was referred to as "Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever".

It's about a guy that after an accident wakes up unexplainably in a fantasy world. He just can't believe that this world can be real, and believes that he must be lying in a hospital in a coma dreaming it all and simply can't wake up.

Because of this the inhabitants of this world call him "The Unbeliever".

It seemed strangely appropriate. 🙂

Hi Unbeliever 😊

Hope it's ok but I quoted you on the 'questions for newbies' thread... Because what you wrote was pretty awesome.

Thomas Covenant. Now that is a wicked name. I tried to convince hubby to call our son Constantine or because the name is so strong.

He looked at me like I was nuts. But I love names. They are important. Thanks for this thread and for your story.

I was (finally) in a better place when I joined so my name wasn't spur of the moment. I chose something I love. Oaks. Quercus is the botannical name for an oak tree.

I love gardening. My garden gave me purpose when I was at my worst. And an escape from my babies when I'd had too much. I would collect acorns put them in the crisper till the end of autumn and then plant. Pin oaks and holm oaks and sawtooth oaks and cork oaks. All different. All so unique in their own way. Like all of us I suppose.

Oak trees are long lived and strong. They give me hope.

Nat

Wow... that's really cool and original.

Plus I hadn't heard the word "Quercus" before either (which I always love).

Thanks for the response.

Oh, and sorry I forgot to say. Of course I don't mind if you used something I wrote in another thread.

I'm happy to have wrote something useful.

hi UB im not sure if you would call me old on here ive been here only almost a year. i dont regret my name that ive chosen. i came here for a fresh start after i disclosed something traumatic in my past and in hopes of getting some advice on where/what/who to go to and my gosh ive gotten much more than that!

i like my name because theres been a few times where ive created 'new rules' for myself and have started again and again and again but thats how i improve myself. i think im well known around the forums now and really im not called 'startingnew' by many anymore. its more SN
