What small thing brought you a little joy this week?

Hi everyone,
Life can be hard sometimes, so I thought I might try something different here.
And I figured it might be nice to share a little light. Has something (big or small, it does not matter!) that brought you a moment of joy this week?
It could be as simple as a smile from a stranger? Good cup of coffee? a walk? Or something funny your pet did.
I’ll start: After a day when I thought I did not accomplish much, my higher up sent me a text message in the evening, thanking for the help I had given during the day. And this put a smile on my face.
Looking forward to hearing the little things that made your day a bit brighter

Hi, whats in a name
I'm happy you've embarked on a small business. I've had several among my 90 jobs and 15 professions lol.
- Lumberjack/wooden products (wishing wells, stepping stones, firewood
- Lawn mowing round (started it up myself when all the locals in my small town said it wont be successful)
- Cubby house builder and seller
- Making scarecrows
- Investigations
My one mistake was starting up a company. In some circumstances its a good move but in others it isnt. Eg if you are a contractor, some large businesses want you to start up your own company, this is because when you do you have to pay your own worksafe /compensation scheme and other reasons that separate them entirely. But, they still expect you to work like an employee. In my investigation job I formed that company and worked hard to become the lead forst choice person companies would contact for work. Then after a few years I realised that the Government were increasing hourly rates and kilometre rates but some companies were not passing on those amounts. It effectively mean these companies were making pure profit out of the investigators travelling while we were the ones running our own cars. So when an increase was given one day I emailed 6 of the 9 companies I was contracted to and told them my new rates. They were shocked! Most told me I couldnt raise my own rates but I reminded them I'm not an employee and they had the choice to not give me any more work. They buckled. Suddenly I was a real business person lol. They had little choice as I worked in the country and they would have had to send a person up from the city to do those jobs and it isnt viable.
So my first recommendations are - dont start up a company unless you really have to. You can start a business using your own name eg (John smith mowing service). And find an accountant once you are established.
Good luck!!

Hi TonyWK,
Appreciate the advice. I actually do have a company set up, but it is mostly so I have a layer of protection if I was ever to be sued more than anything else, im in the finance industry so is relatively common. Plus if everything goes to plan I hope to have at least 1 employee in the future.

Hi Si12345,
You are right with what you said ... learning to appreciate the small things. It took me many years to learn this and thatr was with the help of a psychologist. I'm not as bad as I used to me, a work in progress.
As for songs, given the artist and the title, it is easy to locate on YouTube.
Finally, welcome to the forums and this thread. Hope to see you around.

Hello smallwolf and everyone,
My small joy this week was visiting a town about an hour away. I found two shirts I really like for $3 each at the local op shop there. I also found a new little food store where I was able to buy some dairy free custard - yummy! They have lots of dairy-free and gluten-free things. I also met a lovely lady there at the river and had a really nice chat with her. Later on, I found a beautiful community garden where I sat and had a coffee in the shade as it was quite warm in the sun by then. I thought it would be a really nice place to come one day and read a book. I'm glad I took myself on this little expedition. I find it's really good to have a change of scene.
