Hope this is the right place for this post.
Lately I've noticed reading the news and social media increases my anxiety, so I've made the conscious decision to not really read either of them.
News is a funny one, because I like being up to date but it always bad news or something overly sensationalised.
I gave "good news" websites a go but didn't find it overly interesting.
Now my struggle is filling in my downtime. I'm playing a lot of mindless mobile games and that's about it.
So, wondering what others do?

Hi RX and Happylife,
So sorry for the delayed response RX, some how I missed that you replied! Meditation is great for me, its probably the only time that my mind slows down a bit. I only know 1 other person in real life that enjoys it so it's hard not being able to relate to many other people about it, but I think the habit is set in now as I have done is every day for about 2 months, some days 2 or 3 times if I can.
Happylife, my wife always watchs a kids movie when she is feeling upset/scared, I just can't for the life of me remember with one it is right now 😅
I've found a mobile game - Sky: Children of the light - that I am really enjoying at the moment but it kills my battery to fast!

The best show ever to alleviate your anxiety is the ABC series, Muster Dogs.
The first season was amazing and gorgeous and this year’s season was interesting again.
Apart from seeing man’s best friend being just that… there are some really interesting farmers too.

I seemed to have swapped out a lot of the stuff I used to read/watch for mindless mobile games, not sure if it is a good thing or not though. Definitely harder to hide at work 🤣

I watched a lot of Football last week and enjoyed it thoroughly… the beautiful game played with the round ball of course, but alas the A-League final was Saturday night. Loved the game but my favourite Melbourne team lost it in extra time… now I am looking forward to the Matildas games.
I am also thoroughly enjoying NRL And NRLW of course. If you had asked me about Rugby League a decade ago I would have looked blankly at you like… who, what, where… damn I so wish that I was paying more attention back then. The last 5 years have really peaked my interest. I’m in Melbourne and can’t wait for State of Origin 🤷♀️😄 those women are awesome!!!
Spending less time on instagram but I can’t help myself when I get a notification. I switch between the serious stuff and the funny shit for the balanced opinions. 🙏🏼👍👏🙌🤣😂🤯

I've never watched much soccer/football, but my little fella is showing interest in it so I get the feeling I'm going to have to learn to enjoy it sooner or later haha.

Hi Whatsinaname,
I live in a state where there is a particular news outlet that is deplorable, and I gave up ever clicking on a headline of theirs ever again. Definitely no going back now!
You have mentioned that you enjoy meditating. I often listen to a variety of Podcasts on Spotify while I'm at the gym or cleaning around the house, so I'm sure you could get away with this at work (unless you can't wear headphones or airpods). But there is a particularly great podcast I listen to called 'The Way Out Is In'. It is hosted by two men, one is a Buddhist monk who was personal attendant to Thich Nhat Hanh, the great Zen Buddhist Master, and the other is a British fellow who lives next door to the monastery. Each episode delves into the various teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, of which relates to the art of living, how to deal with suffering and how to nurture compassion for others. Every episode typically ends with a short guided meditation with a focus on breathing and attention to a certain topic.
I'm not a buddhist myself, but I enjoy learning about different ways to see the world & how to deal with my own suffering! 😂 The podcast started during the pandemic, so there are plenty of episodes to chew through. And I like how the episodes stay relevant to the modern world, rather than just listening to people waffle on about ancient wisdom.
Hope your meditating has been going well, great to hear you have been trying to get your family involved too.
