The sports desk

I'm a big sports fan (of the armchair kind) and find that watching sport on tele is a good way to distract myself when I'm down and dwelling on things or if my mind is racing. This time of year it's cricket, with tennis coming up. And Christmas, oh! Boxing Day test, Sydney to Hobart. Love it. Then the Aussie Open around Australia Day. Then the start of the motor racing year, then the footy season (league and rugby for me), the Tour de France, Wimbledon, Formula 1. Sigh.

Any other sports tragics out there? Looking forward to the Oz/ New Zealand test tomorrow!

Hi there Scotchfinger.  How has your day been?

I expect you'd be watching the BBL semi between Scorchers and Stars right now.  I am too, and switching to the tennis where the young new Aussie Daria Gavrilova is playing.  She has won the first set, and a break up in the second.

I hope you noticed that I have allowed you to remain the last poster on the Killer Thread all day?  I have been in there several times sorely tempted to snatch back last place, but so far I have resisted. In case your Scorchers dont win, I think you may feel somewhat better if you can at least still be leading in that one.   ( - :

So how are you anyway?    You've been pretty quiet today, so you must have been busy.  Hope it was all good.

I forgot to ask you the other day, are you a West Coast or Dockers fan?  And do you attend the home games?  My brother in law lives in Perth and is a mad keen Dockers fan.  He is a member and has season tickets every year.

I concede already. A sad day for the Scorchers and the best team won on the day. Congratulations to Melbourne Stars. An absolute tragedy for WA sport. I'm in mourning. In fact I think I will wear a black armband to bed tonight to go with my Simpson coloured boxer shorts and Bananas in Pyjamas T-shirt.

Gavrilova is good isn't she. Did she win?

I used to barrack for the Dockers but now don't like Lyon's coaching style which is very defensive.

Prefer Eagles' more attacking style and some great characters including Nick Nat. and Kennedy. Closet fan of Richmond because of their attacking style. Love Deledio.

Hi Scotch.  I'm sorry your Scorchers team lost.  They have been badly hampered by losses to the National ODI team.  The final between Stars and Thunder should be a good game on Sunday.  Dont attach that black armband too tightly there Scotch, or your arm could drop off overnight.  Its not meant to be used as a tourneque!

Yes Gavrilova is a good young player, and yes she won.  But it was in 3 sets, winning the decider 11/9.  So she is now into the 4th round (Tog 16) which is a good result for the young girl.  Well not all that young, I think she's 21.   Kygrios lost in 4 sets to Thomas Berdich.  Started to act the turkey again unfortunately, silly boy.  He can really play, but his carrying on will be his undoing.

Eagles do have some good players, and I too like Nick Nat. And who wouldnt like Kennedy, a top player?  I have a fondness for Richmond as well, and was always a Richo fan.  I watched the Tigers in Canberra once at Bruce Stadium.  But that was a good few years ago now.  Brett Deledio is a great player, I agree.

There you go, so we can agree on some things.  ( - :

Sleep well there Scotchfinger.  Although its still early in the West isnt it?  Too early for bed.

And I note that you re-posted on the Killer Thread, thus cutting short your record.

My bedtime anyway, worn out after all that cricket and tennis.............

what a persistent poster you are sherie

kyrgios gives me the ****** as does Tomic.

spoilt brats

Persistent - Mmmm, does that mean I am bugging you with my posts?

I agree with you on Kyrgios and Tomic though.  Too much money, too much ego.

I hate bad sportsmanship!  And unfortunately that is what is being displayed by this pair.

Well, the Aussies couldnt complete the clean sweep of the ODI series tonight, getting beaten with 2 balls to spare against the Indians.  But I still think it was a pretty good series, and I enjoyed it.  But there again, I enjoy any cricket!

Tomic is currently up against Millman in the tennis, but I cant stay up any longer to watch.  Will have to get the result in the morning.  Tomic won the first set though.  I would prefer to see Millman win, but I think thats most unlikely.  Oh well.

What else has been happening in sport today, anything?  I've had a bit of a quiet day, so havent kept up with it.

well done mike hussey for bringing the Big Bash trophy back to WA.  a stirling effort. gavrilova had a meltdown apparently, oh dear, and john newcombe is the only aussie man left in the draw. Is that right?

You're up early this morning Scotchfinger.  Its only 5am over there.

Yes, it was well done by the WA boy, Mike Hussey, who helped bring back the BBL Trophy to its rightful place of Sydney.

And yes I felt sorry for Gavrilova, she won the first set 6-0, then lost the next 2 sets.  She seemed pretty upset.  I guess after winning the first set so easily she was probably already dreaming about playing in the quarter finals. I was disappointed for her.  The Spanish girl who beat her seems to have a bit of a knee issue, so I hope it doesnt prevent her playing in the next round.

Will we have any Aussies left in the main draw by Australia Day?  When does Bernie play?  Oh if only we could bring back the days of Newcombe and Roche, true sportsmanship on the court, and good manners.

Just want to declare my deep admiration for and devoted bias towards Roger Federer. Go champ! (Actually I like Djokovic too but no-one is a patch on My Roger.)
