The sports desk

I'm a big sports fan (of the armchair kind) and find that watching sport on tele is a good way to distract myself when I'm down and dwelling on things or if my mind is racing. This time of year it's cricket, with tennis coming up. And Christmas, oh! Boxing Day test, Sydney to Hobart. Love it. Then the Aussie Open around Australia Day. Then the start of the motor racing year, then the footy season (league and rugby for me), the Tour de France, Wimbledon, Formula 1. Sigh.

Any other sports tragics out there? Looking forward to the Oz/ New Zealand test tomorrow!

Hi Mrs Dools.  Yes I have been watching the womens T20 as well as the mens.

I am also a fan of anything Olympic (summer or winter) or Commonwealth or World Championships.

There was AFL on last night between Carlton and Richmond, the opening match of the season.  None on today though.  And there was no NRL on last night, but 2 matches today.  I am interested in the results from the soccer, but dont really watch it as such.  I find it a bit boring.

Yes I consider woodchopping to be a sport.  I love it too, and often watch it at the local Shows etc and on Tele.

I cannot think of any particularly obscure sports that I've seen on Tele.  Probably are some, but cannot think.

Yes I'm watching the cricket. First ball of Pakistan's innings just bowled. Oops 2nd ball is a wide!

I reckon Smith is one of those men who will always have a boyish face. Like Tood Woodridge (tennis).

We like the Olympics, tennis, golf, swimming, league, hockey - almost all sports.

Same as me Lyn.  If its sport - I'll watch it.

Yes I guess you're right.  Todd Woodbridge does still look baby faced. And Smithy will probably always look it too.  ( - :

Pakistan have lost their first wicket....

Well the Aussies got up to beat the Pakistani's in the T20 cricket.

Now they have to beat India on Sunday in order to get through to the Semi's.

Go Aussies ...............

Just a quick reminder to all you sports fans who have been following the ladies T20 Cricket team currently contesting the World T20 competition.

The Southern Stars (Aussie ladies) are playing the Irish team tonight from around 9pm.  Not sure if it is on free to air TV, but it will be shown live on Foxtel - Fox Sports 5 for anybody wanting to watch it.

The Aussie girls need a big win tonight to improve their win / loss ratio to give themselves a good chance to get into the semis.

And for the AFL - The Sydney Swans are playing 'Eddie Everywhere's' Magpies.  Currently half time with Swannies leading nicely.

Well the men's t20 side lost their game last night & are out of the tournament now - much to my husbands disgust. His league team won today - their 3rd out of 4 rounds. My team won for the second time. Hubby is following some tennis tournament in Maine (I think). Only Nick Kyrios(spelling?) remains in the draw. He's not my cup of tea - needs to learn some manners & humility. I'm sur my husband will give me more sports info - when he wakes up from his nap!

Hello there Lyn, I seem to be following you around tonight.

Yes, I too was pretty disappointed that the Mens T20 team lost to India early this morning.  The Aussies seemed to get themselves into a winning position, but the Indians (Kohli in particular) managed to get them home.  Oh well, another World T20 without any silverware.  I will say that Smith was given out, when it appeared he shouldnt have been.  Would it have made a difference?  Possibly, because 160 wasnt enough runs to defend again a very good Indian T20 team.

Oh well, I think the Southern Stars (womens T20 team) will make it through to the semis.  Not sure when their next match will be though.

So which team do you both follow in the NRL?  I follow the Raiders who started the season so well, but this week they lost at the last minute and last week they basically fell into a draw.  Dissappointing.

Do you follow and AFL team?  I follow the Sydney Swans, and they played really well in their opening match on Saturday night.

Yes I've been following the tennis too, and I had heard that Kygrios (?) was still in the comp.  Not sure when he plays again though.  Totally agree, he appears to be a pompous, bad tempered, spoiled big brat.  I hate that.  I am hoping he will grow up though, as he is only very young still.  After all, Hewitt started out as a brat way back too, and ended up being okay (with his moments though right to the end).

Your hubby's knee replacement must be coming up soon.  I have got that right havent I?

Sherie xx

Oops, sorry Lyn.  I meant hip replacement, not knee.

Hi Sherie, yes hubby's hip replacement is 9 days away. He's happy about that but right at this moment he's upset, disgusted, angry & fuming - his league team lost their game with only 10 seconds to go!!! He goes for parramatta Eels. They have done poorly for a few years now but have been playing much better this year. My team is Saint George Dragons. We've been pretty poor for a few years too.

Neither of us really follows AFL much but I like the western Sydney team - it's closest to us geographically.

We're both hoping the women's T20 cricket might be on tv tonight. The men's is on.

I'm just keeping a bit quiet atm till hubby mellows a bit!! He gets so worked up with his sports interests. I'm pleased though that he does keep up with it all. He can't get around much yet so I gave him my old iPhone & he has lots of sports apps. He really does enjoy it - just not right now!!

Oops, just tried to post a longish reply and lost it ...........

Shortened version now, because I'm going out to watch the cricket.

The womens T20 final is being played now on Fox Sports Channel 501. Started at 7pm. Not sure if it is also on free to air though. The Aussies are playing West Indies and after 4 overs are 1-28.
