Humility is more elusive than you think
The minute you think you are humble, you are not.
The minute you think you are better than other people, you become less.
The minute you look down on your dog, you become less.
The minute you look at your watch, you are a slave to time.
The minute you think you are smart, you are dumb.
The minute you become truly grateful, you become truly blessed.
The minute you stop complaining, you become stronger.
The minute you think you understand everything, you understand nothing.
The minute you die, you are reborn.
The minute you look at a person in the eye and truly wish them goodwill, goodwill will be wished upon you.
The minute you accept yourself fully, you accept everyone fully.

Wake up Scotchie, I think I got something to say to you.
It's late January 2016, and you really should be back at school.
No not as a young pupil, bright-eyed and bushy- tailed
But as an old teacher, burnt out from years of negative self-talk
Go on. Get out the front again and take charge!
Mould young fertile minds, sow the seeds of optimism and success
Even if you don't believe it applies to you.
Where's that enthusiasm old Scotchie?
Come on. You're only 58 mate!
Life's not over yet.

On behalf of all the poets here
I want to thank the thanker
Her name is Sherie
She's good company
I suspect she has some creative talent
that hasn't had a chance to grow
Isn't that so?

Hi all. I hope this post finds you well. I thought I would post a poem which I wrote a couple of years ago. It tries to capture some of what it feels like to live with Bipolar. I hope you enjoy...
I Fell off the Earth Today
I fell off the Earth today,
Lost my balance and floated away;
I tried to grab a branch or rock,
Anything with which my arm to lock;
My desperate flailing did not connect,
As I continued to show gravity no respect;
Higher and higher, I rose and rose,
My next destination? No-one knows;
For a while I calmly enjoyed the view,
Not really caring where I flew;
Thinner and thinner became the atmosphere,
I could no longer breathe, yet showed no fear;
Squinting through the infinite dark of space,
Distance soon will this small Earth erase.

I lie here now, a useless lump,
Listening to my heart go thump,
My lead blanket holds me trapped,
A premature shroud in which I’m wrapped.
I cannot face the world today,
My inner demons now hold sway,
Rising, an ocean of tears inside,
I am dead to me, my tears uncried.
I know I should escape my room,
My hopes and dreams lie in this tomb,
Unrealised and trapped, just like me,
A mad fool who longs to be free.
But "should" is just another word,
I berate myself for being absurd,
I bang my head with my fist,
No pleasure for this masochist.
I made it to the front door today,
Believing I would be okay,
I reach a hand out for the knob,
I must get out and do my job.
But like so many times before,
I cannot open that front door,
Instead I turn and get undressed,
Fall into bed, a man depressed.
I look in the mirror from time to time,
Practice fake smiles, a happiness mime,
But I never look myself in the eye,
If I see the emptiness I know I’ll die.
And who would I smile at anyway?
I’m lone and alone, (and prefer it that way?)
I hate myself for being so weak,
For being this stupid emotionless freak.
I know that this depression will pass,
And I’ll be able to get off my ass,
But tell that to my leaden limbs,
To my precious inner light that dims.
This weight for me is an eternity,
I feel condemned to taciturnity,
I am now at my lowest point,
My failures continue to disappoint.

I beg you, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

Wow Silenus.
These two poems are amazing. I was definitely there with you, especially the second. White Knight has written about what we gain as the price of depression. I'm sure he will be writing on this thread soon and can give you the name of the thread he wrote. It's great.
Carry on writing poetry. It's great way to channel your feelings and I find it helps enormously.

I wrote this when my Dad passed.
Spaces
He's there in everything that's not said
Every time we call each other and we don't say why
Every time we hang up early because if we don't we'll surely cry
He there in every thing that's missing.
In the gaps on the shelves from the photos that she's still not ready to see.
In the quietness on xmas day - that person sitting where he used to be
He's there in every thing I never noticed.
Behind the camera in that photo of me, the big smile I gave just for him.
In every silence, every moment moment filled with thoughts of could have been.
He's there in every thing that's not heard.
No complaints when I watch my favourite tv show, no spoon clanging while his tea is stirred.
No grumbling when I wear my shortest skirt, and she wears trousers now without a word.
He's there in all the spaces that I never knew we had.
In all the gaps on the shelves, the missing words on the phone.
In all the memories I took for granted, in sounds that remind you're not alone
He's there in the partvof my heart I never knew existed
A part once occupied with all the love I had to give, with all I had to share.
A part now filled with love to treasure, I find my spaces there.
