The BB cafe is open for business!
Welcome all to a new chill and chat place for everyone on the forum.

The BB cafe is whatever you want it to be. There are comfy sofas, tables and chairs, coffee machines, a kitchen stocked with everything. There's a pool outside, a bbq area, an annexe with comfy beds for a quiet sleep, tv, dvd, books and whatever else you would like to have here.

Most of all, it's a place to meet friends and fellow travellers for a bit of company. Talk over problems, tell jokes, share your day, escape into a world of your making. Grab a coffee and pull up a chair ...

So, with a nod to the wonderful Carole King (Hard Rock Cafe) ...

Now if you're feeling just a little bit lonely
Don't sit at home just mopin'
Come on down to where the friendship flows freely
You know the door is always open

At the BB cafe
Come to the BB cafe
They will help keep your blues at bay
At the BB cafe

Hi Shell, yes I noticed the post finally come through.

Yeah the bits of fruit and a few sprigs of fresh mint always makes punches look pretty, and inviting.

Sorry that you feel alone a lot.  Its odd isnt it that you can feel just as lonely when you actually have company, as you can if you are physically on your own.  I'm glad you have your son.

The Swiss Family Robinson movie has so many 'life lessons' in it I find, so its really a great kids movie.  I have been to Disneyland in the USA, and have been in the Treehouse from the movie which is there.  Its great.

Yes Holly keeps me company during the day if I am in the study working on the computer.  She has a little doggy bed here next to me, and she curls up there quietly.  Hardly even know she's there usually.

Hello to everyone else also.  I hope everyone has a beaut weekend.

Hugs,

Sherie xx

Oh mint.... Do you have any growing at your place? I know you grow some herbs. There are a few different types of mints isn't there? A have smelt a "chocolate mint plant", I think it was called. I love smelling all different kinds of fresh herbs. Fresh basil is like wow.....

Yeah it is a little odd, when you actually live with someone, but still feel lonely. In fact I can be in amongst others, or sitting next to someone and feel lonely. I think sometimes for me, I do feel a sense of disconnection from other people. Myself is sort of hidden somewhere. Oh... I was just thinking maybe that is how Lost Girl feels....like she is just hidden somewhere. Do you ever feel that way too??

You have been to Disneyland, I haven't been to the USA. I expect that place is absolutely enormous. Was the tree house the exact same one then?

Hugs

Hi Kaz

I am glad your little doggie is getting better. Those cone things do look a little unusual. But at least they help the area to heal, by not getting scratched by doggies paws.

I can almost hear plants protesting and yelling loudly for attention. I can see in my imagination a tree with a face and a flower in a pot. The potted flower has a round face, yet a happy face though. Reminding me of "Bill and Ben the flower pot men"....some old fashion children's program.

Hugs to you Kaz

Hi Blond Wolf,

Ah but you ARE all beautiful people...

K9s are doing fine in hot weather. Although the old girl pants and drinks a lot, there's no way she will retire, even for the day. If I insist she stays home, she will refuse her food and will not talk to me for a couple of days. She will not allow the dogs who did go to work anywhere near her etc...

The dogs here have their own clam shell pool. Your big fellow probably wouldn't fit in one of those. The younger Shep feels the best way to enjoy it is to dive bomb in and out. With his bulk, 2/3 times are enough to empty it. No town water here, so it can be a bit of a strain on supplies. Besides, the dogs much prefer to soak in a filthy, muddy dam.  I think I end up using the shell pool more than they do ! Keeping the orphaned litter cool and hydrated has been the real challenge. No air con indoors so their outdoors play pen (cooler outside !) must be moved around the yard to keep it in the shade.

Seems you managed to fix your computer. Just as well as you have been much missed. How are YOU coping with this unusual heat in Melbourne ? Weather patterns are becoming more out of whack every year....Sign of the times, I guess.

Looking forward to spending more sit down-time in the cafe and in good company.

Have a terrific week-end (what's left of it).

Hi Kanga_brumby,

Good to have you with us .

Love your feral profile name...are you a  bush dweller or just a wildlife lover ? I live in the middle of nowhere, at the edge of a National Park. Plenty roos here and also brumbies in spite of heavy culling. Last night, a big wild boar was killed  next to my mailbox...week-end pig hunters ! Wild goats, wombats, wedge-tailed eagles, wallabies, sugar gliders, reptiles galore...we have them all here.

Always good food and drinks at the cafe + good company. Welcome and ...enjoy !

Hi Shell,

Yes it was the mint from my home garden.  There are many different varieties of mint, including the chocolate mint that you mentioned.  Another nice one is pepper mint.  But it was the standard variety I used in the punch.

We also have basil growing in our garden, and every time you brush against it, it smells lovely.

Regarding loneliness - I think the only time I really ever feel lonely is when I'm in a crowd.  I dont have a problem being on my own.  But when I'm with a group of people I can at times feel totally alone.  But silly aye?

Yes I've been to the USA once.  It was when hubby was general manager of a large company, and he was in the US for business.  So when we were in LA while hubby was doing business I spent the day in Disneyland.  Great place.  And yes, the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse was an exact replica of the original in the movie.

Hi Starwolf - good to see you back in the Cafe again.  Your dogs are very lucky with their own pool.  Which it sounds like they very generously share with you!  Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend too.

Bye for now,

Sherie xx

hi Starwolf well it's a long story how I got the handle kanga_brumby short story is my dearly beloved sadly departed gave it to me. She was a part feral hippy, biker type, tree huger. Who was a social change activist, who wanted to save the planet, land rights, save the wales, disability rights in a big way. She had both a physical disability and separation anxiety, depression to name a few. But we still loved her for who she was a beautiful person.  Which brought two great children into the world

Hi Sherie,

The pool can only be shared one of us at a time, although both Sheps once  tried to jump in with me...a bruising experience as they both weigh more than I do. Bit overcrowded in there with the 3 of us. I came out worst of course.

Does Holly like water ? Only 1 of the Poodles here enjoys a bit of a soak (they're originally water dogs but no one told the other one). The Maltese wouldn't be caught dead wetting his precious ankles ! As for the Chihuahua, one single raindrop and she goes into hiding ... Foxies are usually more sporty but yours has a bit of the Mexican sun lover in her.

Great to have a bit of spare time, so I baked a vegetarian quiche (asparagus and fetta) for the cafe. There's also quince paste and a few juicy strawberries, rescued from the recent heatwave.

Hope your back pain has allowed you to rest a while today. Has doing Pilates helped ? Thing is how could you do any exercise at all while being in pain ?

Hi Kaz,

Good to see  you enjoying a bit of R & R. I see your little dog is recovering well so yes, you must need a bit of a break too. I am with you, re waking up every few hours at night. I'm quite happy to almost see the tail end of my orphaned litter ! I really feel for those of us suffering insomnia on a day to day basis. Thank Heavens there's always the cafe to while the nights away.

Have a restful evening and uninterrupted night.

Hi Star,

Holly is funny, she loves the beach and goes into the water quite happily if I am walking along the edge.  Loves running in and out with the waves.  She will walk into rivers and creeks to get a drink, but not much more than that.  But your description of your Maltese sounds just like Holly.  Whenever it rains there is no way she will go out and get her feet wet!  And when she just cant wait any longer and has to go out for a toilet break, its like she is tiptoeing ever so carefully and daintily.  Lots of high stepping and prancing around.  Then when she comes back inside, she tears around like a little maniac to get herself all dry again.

Your quiche sounds good, I love fresh asparagus, one of my fav green veges.  And quinces always remind me of when I was little.  We were on a fairly remote farm and had a nice orchard.  One of the things that always did really well was quinces.  I remember my Mum used to make what she called a quince pudding.  It was so good.  I dont have the recipe unfortunately, but I do recall it had suet in it.  The other way we would eat quinces was baked in the oven and sprinkled with a bit of brown sugar for dessert.  And quince jam of course was a bit of a staple.  As was apricot jam, including the seed kernals.

Thanks Star, I have given my back plenty of rest today.  And done some stretching exercises, which hurt, but I know are good for me in the longer term.  They are not Pilates as such, they are ones that my physio has given me ages ago.  I only do pilates when I'm feeling okay.  It is important not to be sedentary for too long!

Unfortunately I cant stay for your yummy quiche tonight.  Hubby won a lamb roast at the pub last night so I am cooking that for our dinner.  But if there is any quiche left over tomorrow, then I would love to have some for lunch, or brunch.

Thanks,

Sherie
