Hello Croix

Like yourself I found having a break energising

Thankyou DB for your heartfelt post about the life membership with Croix Geoff and myself!...Croix is very humble yet spot on as it means we have stuck around for a while! ( 3 years of ongoing support to others)

kindest always....Paul 🙂

Hello Croix and BlondGuy...two of my favourite fellas in the world...haven't seen you for ages! Well Croix, how the hell do you think I am faring? have a guess? Yes of course all our "tournaments" are off....not even any "practice sessions" and as you would imagine, all we bowlers are "touchers" Hugging all over the place, or we "were" before affection was banned..."social distancing" is the last thing bowlers have a general tendency towards (when they get together that is,) I suspect we shall make up for it , if and when Anna P lets us out to play again..(????)

"empty chairs and empty tables" as they sang in Les Miserables!!

luv u guys...xxxxxx

Dear Moon~

It's excellent to hear from you again and would guess you are doing pretty ok. I sympathize that modern conventional bowling is not on at the moment, though that does leave the field open to work-arounds, and older forms that did not have the same output.

Anyway hopefully you will be "let out to play" before long, and in the meantime learn different moves by heart?

Croix

Hello Croix and Moon

Thankyou Moon for your kind complimentary post 🙂 You have been on Beyond Blue for a lot longer than myself and its always a bonus to read any posts you write

Hello Croix...I hope you have been doing okay and thankyou for your peaceful thread

Croix...funny you should say that about "leaving the field open to different ways" etc... our city centre is pretty much like a ghost town these days..and was walking through a near empty arcade, shops shut or closed down, no one was about at all...except for two people at the other end of the arcade, who exchanged a couple of words and I could hear what they were saying perfectly clearly. and I realised for the first time, "what brilliant acoustics" in this arcade...superb! Seemed a shame to waste them.

Had to stop myself from bursting into a soliloquy from Shakespeare or one of O. W's monologues...I had plenty of space...and all to myself...wonder how long it would have taken for a crowd to gather to see what the strangely bewitching beautiful noise was....and how long for the cops to move me along? On what charge?

Dear Moon~

I wonder which particular chunk of of the Bard's writings you might assault?

Perhaps:

Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's ...

(Never entrust verse to a bowler:)

Hi Paul, I hope you are doing OK too

Well Croix...possibly something from The Scottish Play (can't say the name as it's bad luck as you would know)..well, you might be able to say it but lawn bowlers can't..I like this one...as I've quoted on forum before.

"Life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury...signifying....nothing" seems particularly apt at this moment in time.

can I ask..does anyone these days write much on various threads that isn't about the C virus? Or does it wend its wicked way through all the other topics.....it seems to have infiltrated its ugly way through other threads as well, like the plague that it is....? I miss all the other stuff people used to talk about.

Dear Moon~
I guess we can swap quotes, it's sort of obligatory:)

As Duke Senior pronounced:
"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything."

OK, that's out the way.

I guess you are right, the virus and its effects have entered into the lives of so many, and uncertainty still remains. So people will talk about it, it's only natural.

That is why I started the thread:

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/staying-well/how-to-take-practical-advantage...

In order to try to get some positives out of the predicament people find themseles in and "make a virtue of necessity"¹. Pragmatism - and a pincess - can be found there.

You might care to have a glance at it, if you had any ideas I'd be grateful.

Croix (¹Now I find myself quoting Chaucer - where will it all end?)

Hey Croix....As you advised, I did look at that thread you began.. re taking advantage of isolation.....and must confess I found it a trifle...peculiar. Strangely curious and mystifying in some places....I don't think I can follow it...it seems to be in a foreign language....or is it me?

anyway no matter.....I did understand your mention of old VHS movies deteriorating...there are places and technicians who convert them to DVD....or...I have been lucky enough over the years to successfully find and order my favourite old movies that I hadn't a hope of ever seeing in a store, or at the Library or wherever....even obscure titles that probably no one except myself would have as a favourite.

The service from this site (Australian) has been excellent, movies well priced (even cheap) delivery guaranteed....means I have a well stocked DVD library of most of my old favourite movies to enjoy over and over again.....am I allowed to give you the name of the website on here? I am not sure...you probably know about it...but then perhaps not.

Perhaps I could give cryptic clues.....hey guess what? My bowling club is beginning to have virtual games....well fun practice ones anyway I suppose you'd say....from the comfort of our solitary rooms. I have a feeling the whole essence of it may be lost somehow...but hey....better than nothing I guess...(God we're desperate aren't we?)

Dear Moon

The idea behind the thread was for people (anyone) to suggest occupations hobbies, or other things they could do while isolated that gave them something later in life. Anything from a course of study to a painting, and lots of other things too. That way a person could just post one idea in one post and that was that.

Over time things became mixed with chat and a continuing story about a princess was added so as to make the thread less boring, not just a list of things to do.

So if you have an idea, maybe a bowling technique you can practice at home then use when you are no longer isolated that would fit in well and make a good post.

Does that help?

I'm very pleased to hear you now have the ability to interact with other bowlers, not quite the same, true, but I'm sure heaps better than silence and will no doubt mean you play better together in the future.

I am aware of places that do a good job of transferring VHS to DVD, however VHS is a lower resolution so the end up product will be low res - just stretched out a bit. Plus the cost is normally greater than finding the same thing on secondhand DVD.

Even so there are some precious tapes for which it is worth doing.
