Hi Croix, & thank you, the kind, patient & forgiving walrus, who secretly loves the pesky penguins, their raucous laughter mingled with the equally lovable & inebriated kiwis drunken songs.
My hearing aids are also linked to my phone. However, I’m hearing most of my phone in my right hearing aid. It sounds tinny & buzzy & there’snothing they can do to fix that.
wearing the hearing aids lying down is uncomfortable. I have to remember both my phone & hearing aids rechargers. Indeed, the hearing aids only switch off when in their charging box.
I like having as much info as possible. I want to know why, what, how, when & everything about things which are going to happen. It’s hard to keep track of the info & to remember everything I’ve been told.
I have an app on my phone which attempts to read printed matter by scanning it, & if it doesn't seem to work well, I can have the app take a picture & extract the text for me. I might send the text, to myself, (to my pc), using another email address I have.
Maybe it works as well using the same email as I send it from, but it just makes sense to use another email to send myself such things.
It will take some time to send the pages of “Informed consent” info I have to myself.
I had asked for info in a preferred format, even if I had to go online somewhere & download it It is definitely a problem in many places, especially when images aren’t coupled with a text-based description, the more detailed the better, I say.
There are ways around accessibility issues; it’s just not convenient.
It's hard for me to openly disclose the problems I may have with the procedure & waking from the anaesthesia. I've tried, & will continue to try, but I really hope I don't have to spell it out to them.
Thinking of an iceberg, with a walrus sunbaking, surrounded by pesky penguins & inebriated kiwis squabbling over what to bring you next, sound great! Maybe a pizza, maybe the pizza oven, but possibly not both. If you get the pizza, I hope you will like the clams in shells with cheese, with fish sauce ..

... It's about control, ain't it?
I've been thinking about that lately, too. What I have control over & what I don't.
Look at this, the time... Lunchtime! I am off to the BBCafe for some ham & cheese tortellini in tomato soup No, not so good for my body, but it's so yummy & I've been feeling freezing today. Can't seem to get my feet warm. Paddling around your iceberg, chasing after the pesky penguins in their relay race (to ensure they don't cheat), is half the problem.
I need underwater drones to follow them around & around & around ....
Meanwhile, back on the iceberg, the inebriated kiwis are singing sea shanties.

Dear MK~
You have me quite wrong, I am not enamored of pesky penguins, apart from anything else each leaves a certain residue on my iceberg and the roof of my igloo. The more penguins the more residue:(
I'm lucky with my hearing aids, which incidentally were made by the same company that made engines for U boats in WW2 - go figure. They take batteries so I never have to wait for a recharge. Could you take your hearing aids out at night or when you don't anticipate talking to anyone and use a cheap pair of wired ear-pods. Probably no more uncomfortable lying down and maybe loud enough? I found something to distract me and pass the time on a ward has been a real boon.
Good luck with pic-to-text, apart from diagrams should be OK, also I send things to myself by email a fair bit, it is convenient way to make reminders.
Because I have several physical disabilities I always email to the venue I'm going to and list them, each with what I require. It was a bit embarrassing the first few times but now it just a proforma already written out and I paste it into the document I'm sending. This has worked well for me by and large. I guess over time I'm getting to feel entitled and figure others who are more fortunate should help me.
The inebriated kiwis are now asleep, gently snoozing in the corners (of a round igloo?). Sea shanties did not last long, it's hard to sing with beaks dipped in the beverage of their choice.
You pasta sounds delicious, then again so does pizza with clams and cheese (I can spit out the shells at passing penguins), why are they racing anyway?
You need booties for your paws like Inspector Rex.

Hi C - sounds like a vitamin supplement. Think I’ll stick to ‘Croix’ or ‘the Walrus’.
The pesky penguins are:
- Trying to get dizzy while passing batons from one to another – never mind what the orchestra conductors are doing without their batons.
- They are trying to set your iceberg to spinning
- They are trying to make you dizzy & disoriented
- They are ‘encouraging’ me to get more exercise
- All of the above
- None of the above – what do readers imagine?
I think I will have to buy one of those expensive Air Pods for my iPhone, then only use the one for my left ear, without the hearing aids in of-course. Can’t use Air Pods or normal earphones with hearing aids inserted. My iPhone doesn’t even have a little round hole to plug in old style earphones.
I actually like that my hearing aids require recharging rather than continually using those tiny batteries, which aren’t recyclable.
I have found they are not pleasant to use.
The most basic fact is that they cannot replace those areas of the audio spectrum I have lost, or that sound distorted to me. They can boost the frequencies that have declined but not actually bring back any entirely lost. & they don’t remove tinnitus - just louder ambient sounds mask it.
I’ll have to develop some uses for pesky penguin residue & teach them how to scrape up after themselves.
I’d welcome suggestions from readers about what to use pesky penguin residue for.
After that, it’s just a matter of patenting, packaging, advertising, selling & delivering the stuff.
Hmmm, maybe I ought to make sure it is safe for consumption – just in case.
Wouldn’t it be nice to discover it has pharmaceutical benefits?
Or maybe it’s just a great fertilizer.
Either way, we are onto a winner.
& Croix, did you not notice the bubbles frothing, floating & from the kiwi’s flagons? That’s a definite sign they are still conscious enough to be singing. You don’t want to lean in close to look – indeed it is not be advisable to have the bubbles bursting in your face.
Today I’m making a puff pastry pie with lean beef & pork mince with basil & broccoli with garlic butter, & a little tomato, all cut fine - & cheese on the top.

Dear MK~
I agree, 'C' does not have the foreign mystique of 'Croix' or the admiring address of 'Walrus'.
While I don't like using disposable batteries I found I could only get about 12 hours out of the re-chargeable version, leaving me stranded in the early evening. My phone only had=s a Lightening connection (small flat slot) but it came with wired ear-pods that fit. The bluetooth ones are as you say very expensive. My phone does have a graphic equalizer app that loudens the sounds I can hear - your hearing problems sound exactly like mine:(
One of the more spectacular side effects in the pesky penguins running round in a big circle is they they do get the iceberg spinning, however those at the tail end of the group tend to loose their grip due to the deposits of those in front and centrifugal force swooshes them off the ice and into the sea with a spectacular splash.
Polar Penguin Poo sounds useful stuff. I'm not game to go near the inebriated kiwis, even at a distance one can be overcome by alcoholic fumes.
Your puff pasty pie sounds delicious.

Dear @mmMekitty ~
There is absolutely no pressure to reply to this message, I know it can be difficult, though I was pleased to see your response to Chezza, not only sensible but also shows you still pop in from time to time.
I'm not sure how much longer before your trip to hospital, hope all is going well
Have a pengin 🐧

Thank you, Croix,
I have read a few posts here & there. Most of the time I don't know what to say in response.
I feel nervous about looking into some posts, but I don't like to pass by them either.
One thing that helped me a lot was realising someone could read or hear what I had to say, firstly with an open mind & simply accepting what I'd said. After that, I could be open to hearing my PDr asking questions, making observations, etc.
Next comes who to trust in the 'real world' I felt able to somewhat trust over a distance, like on a site like this. Later in the the writers' group, where we had an understanding that we accept what people wrote about, & with our critiques it was about the technical aspects of the writing. It was hard to remember the boundaries.
Lately, I've become aware that I cannot trust my main support worker with some of my opinions, which I have based upon my experiences & from learning stuff over the years, which she does not agree with. Her thoughts seem to be stuck in attitudes decades old. The attitudes she holds are along the line of "born with it - they can't help it" kind, & this allows her to excuse some behaviours which are more, much more, about power & control, which are things people learn.
But, if I accidently prompt her into talking about any of my experiences, she hops straight into her beliefs. & because she doesn't remember this did not go down well with me, she keeps on. Maybe she's forgotten what I have said before about my experiences, (only some, not all), I don't know. I must make a rule within myself; I can't talk with her about these things. Unfortunately, here is a boundary I must set.
My hearing aid is supposed to last about 20 hours from a full charge. I've not worn them for 20 hours straight, so I can't tell if this claim is true. They will charge up in about 3 hours. If I wake in the early hours of the morning, I can charge them up ready to use when I get up.
Not sure how to compare our hearing loss over this website ... not without swapping audiologist reports, then asking our audiologists to explain them to us.... even describing how my tinnitus sounds is difficult.
I just thought, I never said the pizza was cooked.... so it's either the raw pizza or the pizza oven ...not both.

Hi again Croix,
My procedures are during the last week of August.
I've been selecting things I can eat during the preceding week. I had to check how much fibre was in every item. & then I wanted to make sure I'll still get my vitamins & minerals - it can't all be white potato, white rice, white bread white fish, mild cheese & eggs - yes, I have a list of foods to choosse from & foods to avoid. The list still seems too general & limited.
I'll get more delivered just before the 'special diet' begins.
& you know, this month I have my birthday. I am going to celebrate it before beginning my 'special diet'. Nothing very much this year, just because I have too much going on.
My audiologist also mentioned my ear drums are less flexible & even a little bent or distorted, (I can't remember precisely what she said), more than she'd expect for someone my age. She has advised getting that checked out with an ENT specialist. I'm not waiting for the hospital for this.
Like dental care, it's too important to wait maybe 2-3 years.
Aw...those inebriated kiwis, so much alcohol they ought to be sterile (heheh_, maybe I just use one of their beaks to clean my ears out. What d'ya reckon?
I still enjoy the 5-letter game. & I may pop into the BB Cafe. Now I've done my Census, I need a break. It wasn't easy, & I am just filling in for me.
I had to just say my ancestry is American. My parents, set & birth, grands, too, & I'm guessing before that as well were all caucasian Americans. Who knows? Maybe I'm related to Christopher Columbus? I really haven't cared a fig anyway. So, I am letting the ABS deal with my answer as it stands.
I'd rather like spaces that allow me to say "I don't know &/or don't care" for several questions.
You done your census, Croix?
It had dawned on me how little time there is left to do it before Tuesday 11th.

Dear MK~
Very wise not to leave the ENT specialist, if anything can be done why wait. It costs more but you need the best hearing you can get.
Actually from what you said I can see two possible problems. The first if you decide to have picnic on my iceberg with all that new food it will be white on white and you may mislay your victuals and go hungry.
The other is to be very careful putting an inebriated kiwi's beak in your ear, at the very least they might hiccup and startle you and if you squeeze too hard what goes in might come out - yuck🤢
Have another penguin 🐧 (you can never have too many)

Dear MK~
It must be a Schrödinger's pizza, both cooked and uncooked or neither.
I'm not sure if they deliver censuses (or calendars) to icebergs, I'll have to go hunting for them.
Unfortunately some people are thoughtless and have beliefs that are just that, beliefs, and not based on logic or amenable to argument, some people, believe it or not, don't like cats!
When it comes to blame many think genetics is involved, frankly I'm not sure how much to ascribe. I guess one just has to take the good parts and steer clear of conversations that are problems.
I can seer waht you mean about that literary group, it would tend to be technical than judgmental on beliefs and experiences set down on paper. Useful but in some ways a limited contact.
You really don't have to know how to respond to posts, if just reading some is a help you can leave it at that - the urge to 'fix' or comfort is strong in most of us. This Forum has vastly more readers than posters. When you do reply it is always sensible and positive.
I like writing to you because I can give away penguins heh heh - have another 🐧
