Hi everyone. I'm Geoff and have been a dedicated Volunteer on the forums for 13 years. I am proud to have stopped some of the stigmas that are associated with mental health as well as doing my best to help others too

Before my health went south I was a builder in all aspects of home construction and renovation. If you don't have a handyman around I hope I can offer you some tips that may be of help. I have had many years of experience in home renovation and will do my best to help you out if you are stuck and need some advice

I hope my experience may be of help to the people on Beyond Blue and make their life a little bit better. Even if you need help with the most basic painting job or putting up a shelf I can help there too with some tips

I will do my best to get back to anyone that has a question when I can as this is social yet important thread

Hi RX, are you going to hinge the door from the side or from the actual door frame.

If the door is only 12 ml thick, 1/2 an inch, the screws to hold it on, will have to be short, which poses a problem.

Sorry, I'm just trying to picture the door, and another question, is the door going to fit flush or on the outside.

Hope you know what I mean, so please get back to me.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Hi geoff.

Sorry paul i noticed forgot to mention your name before

My large longeroom sliding window has a gap between the glass and the frame on the edge where the seal has squished out of place. Its been like that since ive been here. Housing wont fix it. Any simple ideas?

Hi birdy

I forgot to say your house sounds cool and full of character. I love the idea of handmade nails.

Go on you can go under the house. Theres just gonna be a 🐀here and a 🐀there and maybe a few spiders and a 🐍😆

Hi Lynne,

Oh yeah i really feel extra excited to get under there now, thankyou so much!
😂 Even if i had a full body suit with a helmet like an astronaut i don't think you'd get me under there.

Yes this little house is a bit of a cutie , people always call it a "dear little house" 😊

So Geoff, i wanted to say my question about that brown wood filler stuff was probably not well explained and is probably a bit hard for you to address without seeing it, so do not worry about that query.

But i am interested to know what your suggestion is for fixing the bouncing floor if i said "i couldn't" get access under the house. The thing is, to get under there, it's a matter of crawling on one's tummy, commando style, and toward the front of the house there is virtually no crawl space at all (it's on a bit of a slope).

Lynne, you can come and do it if you like! 😊

Happy Friday to you all.

Hi Lynne, I do know the rubber you are talking about and if you can lift up the window and then pull it out of the frame, this rubber can be pulled out, then take it down to a window manufacturer who can the fit the new rubber, the take it home, put the top of the window in the frame and reverse what you did to take it out.

Take care.

Hello Birdy, and please excuse me for being late in replying back to you, my apologies.

I really wish I could come and help, not only you but all those who have posted on this thread.

I do remember that brown gluey-type filler, I don't know the name of it, someone else might know, however, what can be used is what I've filled cracks in timber work, is to mix PVA glue with wood shavings or wood dust when you use a belt sander or anything else and then fill the holes/gaps, if needed you can use a wet finger/rag to make flush with the surface.

There are caulking materials you use with a chalking gun, but depends on whether you want polished boards or just to stop the draught before carpet is installed.

There are other questions by you and others to answer so I won't say good-bye.

Hi Paul, thanks and again I'm sorry for being late, I'll have to be checking my thread everyday as the weather warms up.

I would still let it weather, especially if it's still weeping, because if you paint it while it's still in this process, you'll need more than a rubber shovel, in other words it will create more problems, another few weeks isn't going to matter.

Take care.

Hi Birdy, I'd love to see your little house it would make my heart flutter with excitement.

Just a couple of questions if I may, if the cottage is on a slant is the bouncy floor in the middle of the house or in a room close to the side wall, and secondly, do you have a nephew who maybe able to help you and get under the house.

I only say this before I suggest the last 2 options, one which may cost you too much money, but the other a handyman could do.

Looking forward to hearing back from any of you.

Best wishes.
