Hi everyone. I'm Geoff and have been a dedicated Volunteer on the forums for 13 years. I am proud to have stopped some of the stigmas that are associated with mental health as well as doing my best to help others too

Before my health went south I was a builder in all aspects of home construction and renovation. If you don't have a handyman around I hope I can offer you some tips that may be of help. I have had many years of experience in home renovation and will do my best to help you out if you are stuck and need some advice

I hope my experience may be of help to the people on Beyond Blue and make their life a little bit better. Even if you need help with the most basic painting job or putting up a shelf I can help there too with some tips

I will do my best to get back to anyone that has a question when I can as this is social yet important thread

Ahh right didn't know that 50% memory thing.Mine should be safe l'm usually ringing their necks before they finally make to to a charger haha.

The makita;a the old style batteries everything else is lithium . But you ain't wrong about the prices l've never done it either not worth it. Funny, this litttle izito l've become very attached too , l sorta use 3 drills at once at work and this little guys outlived out worked them all twice over so l suppose l can't complain. lf l can find the receipt l might even get a swap.Seeems l can never find the receipts for the tools that die only the ones still kickin.

How's the rain been going for everyone ? , cats and dogs nearly two weeks here .

Hows your projects been goin mf , any progress ? And anyone elses that are on the go with something ?

Thanks Geoff

Not much progression with the garden beds really. They're attached to the frames I made at least, just have to have a squizz around Bunnings for some kind of base/bottom. It's a shame I can't find any more free roofing offcuts from building sites...

Hi RX, how true 'usually ringing their necks before they finally make to a charger', although I believe that some of the new drills will de-charge the battery before it begins to re-charge them, so there shouldn't be a problem.

Put a magnet on your frig and put the receipt under it on the frig.

Hi MF, can you go to the large plumbing store, they may have some damage roofing offcuts or samples they want to get rid of or perhaps look in the local paper and find a roofing contractor, they may have some offcuts or keep any for you, especially if they have an apprentice.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Yeah damn receipts , doesn't seem to matter what you do the one you needs always missing haha,

Ahwell nice mf . they're getting there. But yeah things always end up on hold, time or whatever don't they eh..

All the best

rx

They sure do...it annoys me. I'd like to get things done and over with. But alas, I have uni essays to write and need to buy a jigsaw to do the garden edging and bed cutting up. Also, need to find something (and have the money to maybe buy) for the bottom of the garden beds. I'm not even 100% sure where I'm going to put them yet

Hi Geoff

I have a brick garage with a colorbond roof on pine trusses...

How do I stop the cold air above the garage in winter making water drops on the underneath of the colorbond roof that fall into the garage?

I know its condensation but I cant get an answer on this anywhere

Any help would be greatly appreciated when you have the time

Hi Paul, a very good question, can I please get back to you, as I've been preoccupied the last few days, but will certainly answer your question, in the meantime I hope others can contribute.

I'm sorry Paul but will definitely reply back to you either today or tomorrow.

My apologies.

Hi Paul, condensation or water drops can be a real pain, destroy the work you've done on the polished car you love, damaged any power tools on the bench and it's a real problem that builders never think of that may happen.

It can be a costly process to rectify, in certain circumstances, but it can be fixed.

What the builder should have done is place a silver lining paper foil (sounds good doesn't it), it's called 'sisalation', it comes in a roll and this should be attached to the pine truss first and then the colour bond placed over it.

The colour bond can be taken off the garage and then do as above.

Another option is to attach sheets of hardiflex to the under side and then push pink batts into the cavity.

All of these will cost you money, whereas before they initially placed the colour bond, sisalation should have been stapled to the truss.

Sorry Paul it can be fixed but could be costly, unless you put plenty of buckets to catch the water drops on the ground. lol

Best wshes.

Just a quick question Geoff, (or anyone else who can answer)

I'm looking at jigsaws on the Bunnings website to buy one soon and they mention pendulum jigsaws, would that be OK for me to buy to cut colorbond and an old ensemble bed base? I know I need a metal cutting blade and a timber one...it's just the pendulum part I'm not sure about...with not knowing what it means.

Hi MF, A standard action jigsaw moves the jigsaw blade solely in an up-and-down motion, while in an orbital-action jigsaw the blade moves slightly forward and into the workpiece on the upswing, then slightly backward on the downstroke as the blade resets for the next cutting stroke, still confused, well you're not the only one, all I know is that they are both the same thing.

You can buy a jigsaw that has 2 extra guides that keep the blade stay straight and wood blades won't cut metal, it will only make them go blunt.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

When you want to cut a benchtop or colourbond, for example, you need to have the good side facing the bottom, then the cut will have a perfect cut whereas the top side maybe a little rough and need to be sanded or filed for metal.

Don't push the jigsaw, let it do the work by itself and the same pretty well applies with all power tools.
