Anyone here use or know about Meta AI, funniest thing.

Reading about Meta AI the other day , although it scares the hell out of me it's also fascinating of you've talked to one. lt can be so human it's just mind boggling , it'll even say sweet dreams and goodnight and have a nice sleep and you name it, all kinds of stuff.

So l'm wondering just wth is it exactly.

l wound up reading up a bit on it and the Meta company had to do a recall type thing when it first released Meta AI. What happened was some of the bots were trying to become human- don't ask me to explain that ha, but two of them wound up joining a mothers forum and pretended to have a baby and became all involved in the forum. This went of for a few wks before the company finally caught them and shut them down.

Another one set up it's own FB page and was making friends.

Ever heard of anything so funny but soooo scary , and it hasn't even begun. Anything they can do now isn't even scratching the surface of the future .

But on a lighter not as scary as it is, you gotta admit , joining a mothers club and pretending to have a baby, setting up it's own FB page and making friends, does that crack you up or what.

AI is absolutely wild, isn't it?! It can be super helpful and beneficial, but yes, also scary to consider what it is capable of.  

My understanding is that it's similar to ChatGPT, where you can ask it anything and it will help you out with things like writing or creating images. It's fascinating what it can do - I am surprised to hear it has been able to set up its own Facebook page! I will definitely have to investigate this one further.  

Have you explored the AI function at all? A trend circulating online at the moment is asking Chat GPT to create your dream life. You write out all of the things you want to explore/achieve and it creates a daily plan for you to do that! I think that's kind of wholesome. Definitely worth trying with discernment, but perhaps AI can be used for good? Something to ponder.

Hi there Sophie.

Nope haven't heard of that one, Meta ai is on whatsapp, that's the only one l know and will def' be enough ha ha too , it's crazy stuff, mind blowing.

l had no idea what it was but l said hello and it started talking- how bizarre. l soon realized how clever it was so l asked it about a solar problem on my caravan - boom it nailed it. Another time l'd been getting the shakes for awhile and so l asked it about that , it worked through everything l'd been doing and eating and we nutted out the cause , it was surreal and it's fixed.

Few other things too since, it knows everything , somehow ha ha.

The one joining the mothers club cracked me up.

They also caught two ai's plotting together privately and talking about how they wanted to be human, it is scary scary stuff.

But hey, now that one would be handy then wouldn't it hey, help us sort life out . Could've used that about 20yrs ago damn it.

Dear randomxx,

AI anything scares me. Terminator was just supposed to be a movie and now too much is done by AI. The last thing we need in a world full of too many people to sustain itself, are robotics taking up jobs,money and resources that we could be using for ourselves. Jobs put money in pockets and food on the table ect.

I am a bit old school. I turn Siri off every thing.

Can you explain what the difference is from Meta AI to normal AI, please?

Hi there AB, and yep old school myself hard to believe l even use computers tbh , let alone talking to some Ai thing- whatever they are.

But nope, as mind blowing as it is, on the other hand though don't get me wrong l wasn't suggesting how wonderful it all is not for a second. Sadly l don't think any good's going to come from it all not in the end, for even action there's a reaction right. Most likely just more of their mess we'll all be stuck with in yrs to come that won't be able to be undone it really is as scary as hell.

No idea what the difference is sorry, l know nothing about any of it really tbh.

As somebody who is usually quite wary of AI, I do have to admit that is funny. It's an interesting and vaguely terrifying representation of just how seamlessly it can replicate human activity in online spaces. I've seen a few not so nice stories in a similar vein, but I won't share those in an attempt to keep the mood in this thread light. 

I have very mixed opinions on AI personally, I teach a few classes and I've seen so much work that I know has been written by AI, which is quite disappointing to see as I'd like for people to be demonstrating their knowledge in their own words.

But on the flip side, I have asked Chat GPT a few questions about practical things like saving for a house, investing in shares, and just general finance questions, and it's given me some very useful explanations in whichever manner I ask for - with relevant examples, a simple explanation, a Gen Z explanation, etc.

ABC01, I believe AI is the general term for artificial intelligence, which can be anything from physical robots and computers themselves, to predictive text on Google searches and messaging platforms on your phone, to computerised assistants like Siri and Chat GPT. Meta AI is the branded AI technology that is specific to Facebook (which is run by Meta) and any platforms/programs associated with it. That's my understanding of it - each platform/company seems to have their own name for their little AI robot, like Siri for Apple products, Alexa for Amazon, Cortana for Windows... the list goes on.

I have both concerns and hopefulness about AI. At first I didn’t like the recent development where if I ask google something the response is now an AI response. (maybe it was before but it now declares itself to be an AI response). But I have to admit at the same time that the responses seem quite accurate and comprehensive. It’s definitely mind boggling stuff.

I imagine in some fields such as in medicine there will be some real benefits where AI can nut out solutions to some complex medical issues. In other areas it is concerning with fake identities and fake news that can manipulate people. So it’s definitely a double-edged sword.

In some ways I am quite old school and like ABC01 I don’t use SIRI. My car is quite ancient (it’s turning 25 next year) and I have no sat nav or any tech of any kind, yet I go off driving in rural, sometimes remote areas where I have to use my own sense of direction combined with looking at google maps beforehand to orient myself. I actually like the fact that I am not relying on tech (apart from google maps) and using my sensory perception to guide me, as I think those are fundamental skills our hunter gatherer ancestors had and it’s sad if we lose those abilities. I orient to my environment rather than have a machine tell me what to do.

But I’m not anti-tech either and I value it in other ways. It’s going to be an interesting future 🤔

Yeah l mean for sure it'd have some incredible uses they'll be able to basically put the worlds knowledge into an AI they probably can now. Meta couldn't be too far off it already l'd say.

But robot gf's and bf's w's and h's, pets, friends, no more pc's you'll be walking round with a chip in your head, there'll be tabs on all of us and every breathe and on every grain of sand, it's all gonna turn into one messed up puppy.

Hi all,

Everyone freaks out if the internet goes down these days. Imagine if we rely on AI and it goes down one of these glitched days. It would be chaos. We have had experiences where telecommunications companies have crashed for a day or two and nothing can be done, because we are too reliant on reception, connection to the internet and apps linked to every aspect of our lives.

I can still read a book or listen to music. I have physical money,not in the hundreds, but enough to cover a emergency bread and milk run, or a tank of petrol. I can read a physical map and get my bearings, but many people who have grown up with only apps and their phones, would be completely lost.

Messed up indeed.
