How can we improve the forums? Your suggestions and comments please

Hi all, this thread is a running commentary for all members on things for improvements to the forums. This can be anything from how it looks, the categories, to moderation, community rules etc.

While we might not be able to implement everything straightaway, or keep everyone happy all of the time, we'd like to hear about what you think we can do better.

To avoid repeating suggestions already received, below are some results from our last user survey giving an indication of which new features people would like to see on the forums. This survey was answered by 1,597 users:

44% - Email notification when I have a reply on the forum
39% - Access to the forums via an app
27% - Ability to block seeing posts by specific users
25% - Ability to contact users privately
25% - Ability to use emoticons
25% - Ability to follow posts by specific users
24% - Ability to share links
23% - Forum posts visible only to registered users
22% - A profile, viewable by others users, where I can introduce myself
21% - Ability to quickly access all posts by a particular user
15% - Ability to tag users in a conversation
10% - Ability to share images
6% - Ability to share videos
17% - None of these

my apologies Paul. i use my first name too. but i meant those with full names. but i suppose in a way it wouldn't be an issue, i didn't think of it like that. i shouldn't have said it, i do apologise.

Hello omgomg, for spelling if you google this 'correct spelling on android and computer' or there are add-ons you can have to correct the spelling.

We have to appreciate that if you have a portable keyboard sometimes certain letters don't appear once you punch them, correct spelling will rectify this or windows does have an auto correction in spelling.

i would like to see more threads in the social part, such as games, positive things, whatever really. i can't think of any myself but i'd try to participate in them. sometimes i don't feel up to reading other posts so i feel like socialising or distracting myself, well trying to. i did look through all of the old threads but i'm not sure i want to comment on some of them from years ago.

Another idea: alongside how many people have posted to a thread, could we also see how many times it has been viewed? (I know, it won't actually show how many views are by different people, & how many are multiple views by the same individuals, but my idea is to indicate the thread is being seen & read when there are few, or maybe no responses at all. At least the people who wrote the threads will see their thread has been seen.

There's threads I don't know how to answer, threads I want to go back to but can't find again, & so I am guilty of not even saying 'welcome'. I think how upsetting it must be when someone comes here, in need, & no one seems to notice. People could be lest with the impression that no one cares or hears them. Many of us knows that feeling very well, so I think it is very important that ALL new threads are responded to in some way. Maybe a inadequate response is better than none?

mmMekitty - true, but i don't know if that would make some people uncomfortable. personally for me it would. i don't like when people mark posts from others helpful on my thread but don't reply.

I wish to know how i can change diplay name of my account, how i can delete my account if i wish to and how i can delete a post of mine.

i'd also like the opportunity to change my username, even if there's a thing underneath that says (original user, then your old username). i just came up with mine because i was mb20lover & this was all i could think of but now i wish i thought of something else. but i suppose it could be confusing. i'd also like to put GIFs and photos, for example somebody sharing their artwork or something creative, obviously approved by the mods first. i know we can use emojis if we type them in but maybe we could have certain emojis or stickers for the forums? friendly things of course such as hearts, etc. or maybe a beyond blue heart or something? i don't know really, i just thought it would be an idea. i suck at suggesting things.
