Hi Neeenie87.
I’ve been keeping my anxiety under check the last six months and it’s all due to cognitive-based therapy, a bit of guided relaxation and mindfulness. The backbone of it though is CBT. I have an app on my phone which makes it easy to use CBT and helps record my thinking. I was diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder a couple of years ago and since then have been on some medication and learning how to use CBT. I stopped medication about three months ago and the CBT now keeps my anxiety under control.
As an example of how my anxiety is under control, I had a stroke two weeks ago which has affected my vision and I cannot work at the moment. Whilst it is not the best of situations to be in I don’t spend my time worrying about it. I know there’s only so much I can do and the rest is just waiting to see what is going to happen. If this had happened to me a couple of years ago I would have been an anxious mess.
Hope this helps.
Dean

Hello Neenie, I have tried many different kinds of therapy over the years and am at a point in my life where I feel that all the different things I've learnt have finally started to come together. I am not free of anxiety - I'd be a robot if I were! - but in the bad periods I find I can cope much better and the moods disappear more quickly as a result. While I have not eliminated anxiety, I have almost completely gotten rid of 'anxiety about anxiety', which is like a magnifying glass in the sun for moods.
Another thing too, just on the question you ask about 'who here is on a good run'. You're probably going to find a lot of posts in here from people who aren't doing well, but please don't let that discourage you. People naturally come here when they are struggling and need some advice, and are far less likely to be posting when everything is fine.

Good Morning Neenie and thankyou for posting
Doing really well here and 95% anxiety free...Through years of CBT...my excellent GP...and not 'fighting' anxiety
Very simple techniques learnt over a period of time that worked for me
Best Reference: Self Help for your nerves by Dr Claire Weeks(Psychiatrist)...plain english paperback/still avail
The Symptoms of Anxiety are only Feelings...bad ones yes....but still only feelings
Acceptance of these 'feelings' instead of 'fighting' them
Being 'gently occupied' instead of 'flat out busy' all the time
Avoiding over critical/negative people....They can hinder recovery...
Self Nuturing....being gentle and kind to myself from my heart..
Kindest Thoughts....and here if you need us Neenie87
Paul
Note: why do I feel like I am in primary school with JessF's Angela Lansbury looking sideways...hmmmm 😉
