Some Youtubes showing up making me stressed. Is there a way to stop them showing up?

Sometimes when I go on Youtube, it comes up with some videos/topics that make me stressed. I was wondering if there is a way that I can stop them from showing up? I've heard you can sort of do that if you are logged in, but only if you are logged in and even if you are, you can still only block these videos to a degree or press things like "Show less of these videos" until they hopefully stop?

Let's say the Youtubes/topic that is making me stressed if depression for example, is there a way I can get it to stop showing up? Would I also be able to still look it up if I wanted to, probably on Google (I know that sounds confusing).

I have been using different "profile" things. Whenever Youtube starts showing me too much of something that makes me stressed, I change the "profile" thing and continue using the new profile until it starts doing the same thing while using the new one and starts showing the stressful Youtubes again. Then I start a new profile and just keep doing that. I am sometimes able to delete search history on some of the profiles which makes it stop showing anything at all until I have typed in things in the search bar, but after a while, the topics slowly start showing up again even though I don't search them up.

It would be great if I could get it to stop showing me these stressful Youtubes/topics on all the different profiles so I can go back to just using one as well as stop it showing these things when I am logged into Youtube. Another thing that would be great would be if I can block certain Youtube channels/users and their videos both when I'm logged in and when I am not.

This is your lucky day, my friend.   Find a YouTube video you dislike.   Beneath the video thumbnail are three vertical white dots.   Click on them and choose your remedy. 🙂

Peace, love and hope

amd1953 is correct.

Staying logged into a single profile and curating what comes your way is the best strategy. Keep using YouTube options such as blocking the whole channel, using "Not Interested" to signal that you're not interested in the topic, and disliking videos (ambiguous, as it signals either the channel, the video, and/or the topic). You're still able to view all of the above if you search for it again at will, though any blocked channels will need to be manually unblocked if you want to see recommendations from them.

If you are logged out and the depressing content is popularly viewed by other users, it might eventually be recommended to you.

Deleting search history is good, but you're also asking YouTube to forget about the content. Through your own browsing or if the the content/topic is popular again, it may come up as a recommendation again.

If you want to setup another profile to view specific content and not want that mixed with your main profile, you might want to do that using another browser or using your browser on incognito mode. That way the search history can't get mixed up for sure.

Hope any of the above helps.

Thanks guys, I deleted the search history which mostly stopped these videos coming up and I will also try the 3 white dots thing. 🙂

I was wondering, if I look up a lot of things that are unrelated to the things that are making me stressed on Youtube, would that help the algorithm show less of what I don't want to see because it will mostly start showing me new stuff?

Hi EG, I find it hard now to find any YouTube videos that aren't AI slop. They are all the same regurgitated slop. I find this stressful no matter the topic. I love YouTube but wish you could filter AI narration and content. Last week I joined the local library and borrowed a couple of books. Fantastic! 😉. David

Yeah l had the same prob Earth Girl, it was getting that bad l couldn't even look at it any more. Thank God l read about the three dots thing too and that stopped it.

But yeah the AI stuff to Guest, it's so bad now it's making me sick. l watch a lot of interviews for example but these days l have to look for the AI give aways or you won't even know if it's legit.

l dunno how they make that stuff some of it's getting that real, even movies.

AI content is fairly easy to spot at the moment.  Apart from the odd narration glitch which is occurring less these days, they tend to be over narrated and padded out with storytelling with little factual information. I guess it also depends what you watch. I watch a lot of documentaries some of which are that bad the video content has nothing to do with the narrative. You can't even trust David Attenborough or Brian Cox any more.

Looking up things unrelated might wash over the things that are making you stressed, unlike say shopping suggestions on an ecommerce site. YouTube factors other indicators such as the length of time of the videos you complete, if you completed them, if you watched other related content afterwards which hints at deep interest for the topic. e.g. Completing 100% a 2mins YT short 100% is not worth more than partially finishing a 38mins of a 40mins (95%) video.

Sorry for the slow response, seems like my last comment didn't post.

Narration and video quality are getting better these days, but the content will only be as good as the person reviewing the content before posting. I'm not against AI content when creators are using it as visual presentation material that doesn't distract from the facts of the subject - I'm sure even the newest discovered stegosaurus species didn't have large jaws and sharp teeth.

The big one I always block are unknown creators with auto-generated user names. Some might have successfully tricked tens of thousands of people to subscribe via YT shorts, and have many active upvotes and comments in their videos. YT sees the genuine engagement as a positive sign and the algorithm moves it up the suggestion ladder.

Thanks so much guys. 😊

I've tried your suggestions and they seem to be making this stuff show up less which is great!
