Regrets and wasted time

Recently I was hanging out with some people a bit younger than me who were telling me stories about all the cool experiences they’ve had, and while I was listening I felt like I have wasted my younger years by always playing things safe and being too anxious to do fun and reckless things. Now I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot of great experiences to look back on. Whenever someone asks me if I have any interesting or wild stories I really don’t have any to tell, and now I feel like I’m too old to do anything like that. I’m 25 which I know isn’t that old but I feel a lot of anxiety around my age and things I should have done by now.

Hello Von is lost..

People are different from each other..some go travelling overseas, do skydiving, water skiing, roller skating etc...and others don’t because it’s not to their liking...

I don’t think you have wasted your life because you haven’t done anything reckless or exciting..you’ve been living your life the way you have been wanting too...

Listening to others peoples stories about what they have done does does tend to make others listening feel like they have missed out on a lot...I feel that if you had an interest in something other then you’ve been doing..you would have chased after it...and given it a try..

Not that long ago I saw on the news..an 81 year old woman take her first parachute jump...a 90 year old man just started taking ball room dancing lessons....I believe that age is just a number..and at any age you can do what you want to do....You’re never to old to try to do things you want to do...

Every day we are blessed with..is a new day for us to do what we want to do..

My kindest and caring thoughts..Dear Von is lost..

Grandy..

Thanks for the reply. I think I have wanted to do other things but my anxiety has gotten in the way, and I guess I just feel sad about that.

Hello Von is lost,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you feel that you missed out on being more experimental during your younger years. As you said yourself, 25 isn't old! It's good that you had the chance to talk to these younger people as now you realise this, and hence you can change it and make more memories. In 10 years time you can look back at 25 and think about all the adventures you went on. Everyone has a different journey and has different experiences at different times and with different people. Just as wonderfully @ggrand said, theres no set age to try new things! You can always make new fun and exciting memories at any age. However, I can see how your experience with anxiety must greatly impact your ability to participate in some things. If you haven't already, have you considered receiving some professional support for your anxiety?

Wishing you the very best ~
