Panic attack out of the blue???

Hey everyone,

I’ve posted here before about missed heartbeats and other strange symptoms I get. But tonight something strange happened...

My partner and I had just finished washing up after dinner and I’d made myself a cup of chamomile tea. I went to sit down in the loungeroom when I felt funny and noticed irregular heartbeats... It lasted maybe 2-3 minutes I got up and spoke to my partner and felt ill. He checked my pulse and said my heart wasn’t beating right. I started to panic - I burst into tears thinking I needed an ambulance. It stopped but the fear remained... I am now shaky with prickly forearms and well needing to use the bathroom heaps... My heart I feel is also I feel beating faster than normal and I can’t sleep... I’m petrified.

I have had tests done on my heart 2x 24 hour holter monitors and an echocardiogram all normal. I figured if I had a dangerous arrhythmia it’d have shown up in the testing... It hasn’t happened in so long and I thought maybe I was getting better but this came I feel out of the blue... I’d been feeling so good lately I decided to have a glass of wine tonight. I had a glass yesterday and nothing like this happened....

I do have a lot going on at the moment...

I’m just wondering could it have been a panic attack?

Hey Midnightmoon

My sister just went through exactly the same as you two weeks ago and me too back in the '80's with identical symptoms.

I used to have chronic anxiety with the heart palpitations ....prickly forearms and very frequent use of the bathroom too.....and yes anxiety can happen 'out of the blue' for sure...

Your second last sentence said everything....."I have a lot going on the moment".......You have actually answered your own question and good on you

Just from my own experience/opinion with anxiety your symptoms are anxiety related. Even though these symptoms are very common they are awful for sure.

I know that you are probably tired of reading the words 'see your GP' but that is the best move you can make as many GP's have a better understanding of anxiety now compared to when I started experiencing the same symptoms back in the 1980's

You are a smart person who has been proactive and reached out. That takes strength and courage MM.

When we have a lot happening (on our plate) our adrenaline can take over and 'remind us' that we have to take a step back. (I didnt understand this when I was 23 with the same symptoms)

Just my humble opinion through my own experience....please see your GP....The earlier anxiety is treated the better you will heal

you are not alone Midnightmoon. There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you that also suffer from the same awful sensations as you are now

My Kind thoughts for you

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for replying. I appreciate your input.

I am so sorry both you and your Sister have experienced these same symptoms.

Did yours just start out as missed beats? Lasting a few minutes?

I have an appointment with my GP today so I’m hoping to get some treatment. I’m hoping to get a mental health plan done.

Thank... It’s hard to step back when you have so much to do that unfortunately can’t wait.

Thank you so much.

Hi Mightnightmoon

Thankyou for posting back your kind thoughts and good on you for seeing your GP.

To answer your question my anxiety initially made my heart feel like was doing the same as yours. It scared the hell out of me until I found out it was the adrenaline working overtime.....standard anxiety symptom.....

I hope you had a good appointment with your GP MM 🙂

My Kind thoughts

Paul
