Hi I take medication for anxiety and depression, seen psychologist for few visits, changed meds but I have this overwhelming sense fear want to switch it of . Just hits all of a sudden and unable to prevent it. Try activities, body scan, music exercise but I am never fully coping. I know I should participate more in the community but I don’t want to do so if I can’t do it regularly. Anyone have any ideas?

thanks for posting and sharing what this has been like for you. That sudden surge of fear you describe can be really unsettling, especially when you’re already doing so much to try and manage it. Many people find anxiety can arrive very quickly and feel almost impossible to switch off, even when they’re using helpful strategies.
It sounds like you’re putting a lot of effort into coping with therapy, medication changes, grounding, movement and it can be discouraging when it still doesn’t feel like enough. That doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. Sometimes coping isn’t about stopping the feeling, but about getting through it as safely as you can while your system settles.
It’s also okay to engage with the community in small or irregular ways. There’s no pressure to show up perfectly or consistently here. Even reading along or posting when you feel able can still be part of connection.
You might find it helpful to keep talking with your psychologist or GP about how sudden and intense these episodes feel, especially if they continue. Adjustments often take time, and your experience is worth being taken seriously.
You’re very welcome here, and you’re not alone in feeling this way. Hopefully others will share what’s helped them too. Take care,
Sophie M

Hi,
Thank you for sharing.
Appologies in advance if I misread the entry. I was on medication and changed meds aswell. For some time my anxiety/ dread feeling came back during the transition period. I wasn't sure at that time what was going on. Just need to be very kind to once self at times like this. But it's hard. Most of the fixes maybe temporary but sometimes it's nice to have a break from your thoughts. I found writing down why I was feeling panic helped. Just asking the question and writing. Also telling my self that I have had feelings of panic but I have managed to pass through several and been okay helps a bit. I use to get the feelings after resting or after I wake up. Sometimes a shower helps because it changes the environment slightly. It's the same as concentrating on your breathing. Anything to give a break from the feeling. But honestly you reaching out and talking here is a great thing. I do hope you find something helpful that you can work though.

Oh yeah, that sudden onset of dread / panic / anxiety for no good reason - it sucks big time. I got that after coming off my SNRI. I tried Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and it does work. Also, tried humming. Yep, take a big breath in and hum it out slowly. This is backed by science! It helps me. Have a search online for reset parasympathetic nervous system. These actions help to calm your nervous system. I’ve even tried just jumping up and down, and that works, too!
All the best.
