Night Sweats and anxiety?

Hello,
Concerned newbie here.
My partner, who has always been prone to health anxiety, has had a hellish few months with a number of diffuse symptoms (far too many to list here) needing investigation and testing, leading to extreme anxiety and panic. Luckily nothing serious has been discovered, but 3 weeks ago he started sweating at night. I wouldn't describe it as drenching night sweats, but he's certainly sweating profusely. As he has already had blood tests, ct scans and had a doctor examine him physically I can only put it down to stress. Is this a common experience for anxiety sufferers? Thanks in advance!

Hello
Nice to see another supportive partner on here (my bf just dumped me so I'm loving seeing the love). I haven't had that experience myself - night sweats, but I have a lot of trouble sleeping. According to google night sweats have been attributed to anxiety, so it's quite possible that's what's happening. Best wishes, Kat

Hello Kalin,
Welcome to the forums. It’s great that you thought to reach out here ☺️
I’m not a doctor, but I believe it’s true that night sweats can be caused by anxiety. I know for me there was a period of a few months where I was waking up sweating and having a choking feeling and it was during a time that I was experiencing crippling anxiety during the day. If your partner is feeling such high anxiety about potential health issues then it can possibly be playing a part.
The other thing that I know causes nightsweats for me is certain medications. In particular antidepressants. It’s a known side effect of a lot of different medications, so it’s worth looking into if he’s taking anything.
Health anxiety is a pretty common type of anxiety and I’ve just found this awesome resource at :

They also have an anxiety resource at:

I was wondering if your partner is seeing a psychologist about his anxiety? It can be a difficult thing to overcome alone. He can ask his GP for a Mental Health Care Plan, which will allow for 10 free sessions with a psychologist per year. I think it would be a good idea to consider because there are so many skills that can be learnt to better manage anxiety, and a psychologist is the best person to teach them, while also providing emotional support and encouragement.
Don’t forget to look after yourself in this situation too. It’s understandable if you need your own support at the moment, because standing by someone you love who’s struggling can be challenging and take a great toll on your own self care. So please remember to take care of yourself too.
