Next of kin

Is there anyone else out there that does not know who to make next of kin.  I come from a large family and have no support.  When being admitted to hospital or when in accident you have to nominate a next of kin,  can’t get it through people’s thick skulls that if you don’t have one you can’t nominate one.  As for close friends, near impossible.  I am socially isolated and any friends I have are only friends because I don’t burden them with my problems.  Other issue is, who when you have no one do you leave your estate to

Hello Sickofeverything, you've asked a very good question because it's not that easy to decide on.

I think it comes down to who you trust most of all, this doesn't mean you have to continually be in contact with them but a person who you can tell them a secret and it's not spread around.

May be a parent or a relatively close counsin to be next of kin and who to leave your estate to could be to any charity, such as RSPCA for example.

Hi Sickofeverything,

I am in the same position as you. I tell whoever is asking, that no, I do not have any next of kin. This was hard at first but now I don’t try to think of anyone. I do the broken record, No, there is no-one. I don’t explain myself anymore. At most I make sure they have my doctor’s details.
I have written and lodged a will with the State Trustees. I specified a charity and included a letter stipulating my siblings are not to receive anything of mine.

On another note, I hope one day you choose another pseudonym for here, something that is uplifting for you. One that helps you feel hopeful about the present and future. 🙂
