Hey Saltbush Boy,
Waking up every day with a wide open heart and mind, empty of all yesterdays, takes a great deal of courage and freshness of spirit. Being able to do this regardless of whatever the past had in store commands respect. What a terrific attitude!
Not everyone can do this. No matter how much people around you love you and try to do the best they can, they can never walk in your shoes so sometimes end up saying/doing unhelpful things. I agree that sometimes, saying/doing nothing- just being in the here and now- is the best approach. Feeling isolated and misunderstood is painful. Can our state of mind be explained to others ? Sometimes it does, sometimes not. All we can do is try, keeping in mind that those who offend us may do so with the best intentions.
Seeing someone we love and care for face a difficult situation affects us deeply. We feel helpless, inadequate so it is often exactly what our response will be.
I wish you a good day.
