Something that has started affecting me in the last year and it's so frustrating. Im looking to vent or if anyone can help or share success stories. Whenever im in social situations I dont know why but I tend to feel under pressure even when in meetings at work where im just listening. I feel so awkward always having to play it off or ignore it when im just dripping with sweat despite the aircon being on and cool tenperature.

Hello VikingWarrior

Welcome and thank-you for being a part of Beyond Blue!

Being in meetings and social situations can make many of us feel out of our 'comfort' zone. This is very common Viking. I know that I have a slight tremble (hands) in social situations which doesnt do anything for my self esteem

You are spot on when you mentioned 'frustrating'....Sweating/perspiration is also a part of feeling uncomfortable in various situations. Do you have any anxiety prior to social events or a meeting?

I know I do!

You are not alone VikingWarrior

I hope you can post back if and when you choose do so 🙂

my kind thoughts for you

Hi VikingWarrior and welcome to the forums

I myself have GAD. I still have it, but with help of my GP, psychologist and psychiatrist (note my history is a bit more than just GAD, so not all people with anxiety need to see one) I am able to manage it. I may have some bad days here and there but more good days in terms of anxiety. Before getting help anxiety was taking over my life, and the symptoms were not just affecting my mental health but also my physical health (feeling of dread, sweating when it isn't that hot and throat spasming etc). I do not have social anxiety, but when my anxiety is high in general I feel some ascpects of social anxiety. I try remind myself that 'I am safe and ok' and I try remind myself that if I don't really notice others sweating, so they probably don't notice if I am sweating. Also I remind myself that others at this party probably feel the same way I do to.

Hello VikingWarrior,

I understand the situation you're in, I've been there and I'm only young. When I was at school I would sweat in group situations always believing that I was under pressure and constantly being watched or something along those lines. However my biggest regret was to not reach out to anyone, I had no one to take that pressure off my shoulders and after I finally talked with someone it was such weight lifted off my shoulders, and you just feel and think so much better of yourself. Just try and stay positive in those environments and think of something that will take your mind of the situation that is pressuring/or making you feel awkward. If it is, however, a medicinal issue rather than the environmental situation, then I definitely suggest getting in contact with a psychologist or psychiatrist just to get the problem fixed as quick as need it to as you said it was 'fustrating'

Thanks for posting

Sincerely, Harrison
