Memory/Concentration/Forgetfulness - anyone experiencing this?!

Hi all,

I’ve been on meds for anxiety and depression for just over 2 months and have been experiencing short term memory loss and concentration issues. I have also become super forgetful about simple things like what I was doing this morning or yesterday. It takes so long for me to remember the activities/events that took place over the past few days.

Could this be anxiety related? I’m also thinking whether it could be hormonal as I just recently gave birth and my Monthly womenly ‘issues’ are still sorting themselves out...

TIA 🙂

Hi TheAnxiousOne,

Thank you for your post.

To answer your question, yes, yes and yes. Short-term memory loss and concentration issues can be caused by lots of things, including medications, hormonal changes and anxiety.

If you were to search the forums with anything like memory loss, forgetfulness, concentration or confusion - you'll find lots and lots of threads here with people in the same boat as yourself.

Sometimes it can be helpful to have a chat with your GP to let them know what's going on. If it is a side effect that's bothering you too much, there's always the option to adjust your dosage or change to another medication. Therapists can also help in finding day to day strategies (i.e. reminders, diaries, to-do lists) while mindfulness is also a really helpful technique and there's good research around how much it does help with things like memory and concentration.

Hope this helps

RT 🙂
