Hi AmyLillian,
Welcome to the forums and thank you for your post. While I know this is a specific question I hope you can find a bit of support here with your anxiety and recent separation. It sounds like it's been really tough so the forums can be a really great outlet.
With your question though, it really does depend on the doctor. I think what you are asking for is reasonable and completely understandable. I imagine that if you were going to the GP on a consistent basis asking for longer medical certificates there would probably be more reluctance from the GP.
I know this doesn't quite answer your question but I would suggest that you try and find a GP who is mental-health friendly (and knowledgable!).

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having a difficult time.
In the past, my regular GP has provided a certificate when I was having a particularly bad time with my anxiety. They called my therapist for me to book an appointment and the certificate covered the time until I could see them. I think a GP who is familiar with anxiety will understand that it can flare up when you are travelling through different events and experiences in life - particularly anything that brings change.
On the other hand, when I was studying many years ago, I managed to vomit on myself while waiting to begin an exam and didn’t get to see my normal GP. The different GP did provide a certificate, but they also told me at length to get over myself. I make sure I never see that GP for mental health problems now!
tldr; a good GP will want to help you with your symptoms and that might include some time off work with a certificate.
Sending you strength and internet hugs!
