I'm in high school, and I usually get good grades, but recently I've been struggling with my assignments, especially since I have five going on at a time. Its gotten to the point where I've had to hand in my assignments incomplete or lacking detail. I'm worried that when my report card comes out, Ill get lots of Ds. I'm trying my hardest, but I've been getting overwhelmed and that often leads to me procrastinating and leaving things till the last minute, and I think to myself that I'm not smart or good enough. I was wondering if there's any thing I can do to help me feel less overwhelmed and get rid of the negative self talk?

Hi, welcome and thankyou for a well worded post.
You have indeed tried your hardest, however, we can all benefit from working smarter rather than maximum effort.
For example, we humans are machines mentally and physically and like every machine in the world we need maintenance and rest. This doesnt come natural to many of us, even most of us but it is natural in many animals. Watching documentaries I've seen how animals on a trek in the desert, rest during the day and walk at night or rest while they recover from a long walk, yet this isnt as obvious to us.
If you are tackling a project at home for 4 hours without a break you will not get 4 hours work done, there will be many periods when you sit and dwell on how you cant finish the project. Add those times up, say 20 minutes and that could equal 4 walks of 5 minutes each. That will refresh your body and mind to be more productive when you resume.
A chart/white board can help with a plan. Divide up your time between the assignments and get as much done as you can, favourite subject first and get them out of the way.
When you are given an assignment start it that day and get it out of the way quickly. Keeping ahead of assignments is a good feeling as your completed work will sit there until handed in, its more relaxing.
Finally, there are students that do attend levels of education that is over their heads, they dont have the capacity to do the work. In that case you are better off reassessing your future and plans of your profession you seek. If thats you then a chat to your parents and school counsellor is essential as it is a big step. A good example of that is when I was a security guard and was offered a higher position, I struggled to learn the work as a supervisor as like you, I was overwhelmed, so I asked to become a control room operator at a fire station. That role was much easier for me to handle and once mastered I eventually became a supervisor then ran my own business. So this feeling of being overwhelmed can be common, be kind to yourself and accept that this can be normal. In the meantime work smarter, take breaks and complete work as soon as you get the assignment.
I hope that helps. Repost anytime
