Hi all!
Woke up this morning feeling a bit overwhelmed. Knowing that my mum is going back to see the oncologist on Thursday always makes me anxious.
Im also trying to drastically change my lifestyle to benefit my mental health. All this stuff makes me anxious.
I was wondering what you all do when you feel overwhelmed?

Hi there 🙂
Roll myself up in a blanket burrito? This is not always practical but sometimes it's pretty nice.
If anxiety comes on strong there are things you can do in the moment, like pause, put your hand on your belly and take some nice slow deep breaths in and out, feeling your belly rise and fall, just concentrating on your breath, and turning off your thoughts for a bit. That's pretty good. You could also take 5 and do a meditation. You can download an app for this. There's some great ones, and a few minutes is all you need.
There are also things you can do more regularly to help with anxiety - yoga, meditation, exercise, journalling - these are all helpful.
Not sure if that's the sort of thing you're asking, but happy to chat more.
Katy

Hi Katy!
I have been exercising with a personal trainer for a while and that's been good. I've tried meditation but i find it hard to switch off and concentrate since my mind never rests. i'll give the breathing exercise a go.
Thanks for the advice!

Hi Geoff
My mum went to the hospital today and they said it has grown a little bit. She has been fighting this for a few years now, this the second time its come back. They cant give her more treatment because it will do more damage than good. I am a little relieved that i know than not knowing, that's what makes me anxious.
Thanks for the support!

Hi Nightwing81
I'm sorry to hear things are tough for you right now.
When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I like to reach out to my friends for a chat, or I try to focus on a calming or enjoyable song, TV show, etc.

Hello Nightwing, it's still very sad to know the outcome and wonder if there is any other therapy that would benefit your mum.
Can I ask how this is going to affect you and what you're able to achieve yourself, not an easy question to answer, I'm sorry.
Take care.
Geoff.
