Feeling Guilty

My husband was made redundant 2 weeks ago and finished up on Friday. For 2 weeks I’ve been suffering from anxiety worrying he wont get another job(he’s 62yo) and I’ve lost 5kgs. He was offered a casual position on Friday, 8hr days 5 days a week, which is great, but I can’t shake my anxiety. I think it’s because it’s casual and they can turn around anytime and say the jobs over and then we’re back to square one. I feel guilty for feeling this way. How do I get rid of the knot in my belly and the constant negative thoughts running through my head?

Hello

I'm so sorry that you feel like that. Sometimes anxiety can take over and send us to a very scary place. It can feel like there is no way out. What usually works for me is to try to find a relaxation technique that makes me feel better. I found walking or any mild physical activity can calm me down enough so I can face my thoughts and make sense out of them. While doing it, I try to align my thoughts with reality and focus on the big picture as our imagination can sometimes go wild.

I can see that your husband's job and maybe upcoming retirement is the cause of your worry. Maybe trying to sit down with your husband and discuss the plans for future might help to clear things out and help with your worrying.

Also, I'd recommend talk to your GP as rapid weight loss is not a good sign. They can help with your situation and make it much easier to deal with.

Please be nice to yourself and let us know how you're coping, just sharing your story can help a lot
