Hi all, I'm needing some reassurance. My physical symptoms of anxiety are overwhelming at the moment. I have ectopic heart beats and palpitations with flu like symptoms. I cant believe this is anxiety. I feel awful. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi Snapple,

Sorry you are experiencing this. Have you been feeling this way for long or do you know what has triggered it? It does sound like anxiety, has it happened before and have you seen your dr?

Hi Snapple

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting too!

It does read like anxiety snapple. The adrenaline flow prior to and during an anxiety attack can bring on the heart palpitations that are scary even though they arent. I have had acute anxiety for years and you have just described my early symptoms. Subject to your GP's opinion of course

Like CMF said, seeing your GP is a crucial first step right now.

It would be great if you could write back and let us know how you are going, you are more than welcome to post as many times as you wish

Kind Thoughts

Hey Snapple, I know exactly how you are feeling. Having anxiety can sometimes seem like the loneliest thing in the world, but there are soooo many people out there experiencing the same thing as you, so hopefully just knowing that makes you feel a teeny tiny bit better.

It is a hard step to take, but I think you should try and get to see your GP. They will make recommendations to you on medication and if you don't want to go down the medication road then you can discuss referral to a psychologist. In the meantime, practice taking deep breaths in and out and try and get out for a walk or some form of exercise. I also find as a temporary measure, putting my hand over my heart helps...apparently this goes back to when you were a baby and as a form of reassurance you were held against your mother or fathers chest for reassurance. It's a bit weird, but I actually do find it a bit helpful!

All the best.

Hi Snapple

Sorry to hear you are having signs of anxiety. I know the feeling. Everyone has different signs of anxiety. I know beyond blue has a checklist you can look at, however no website will have all the symptoms. I remember before i was officially diagnosed with GAD last year (I was a silent sufferer for years) I thought I was having signs of diabetes (loss of appetite, constant dry mouth and thirst, shakey, feeling weak or faint, going to the toilet a lot more, increased heart rate, constant feeling of dread, weight loss, constant worries about little things etc). It is horrible and can be delitating. I would agree with the others. I suggest you go talk to your gp or someone you are comfortable with. I didn't have a gp I felt comfortable with at the time so I went to a youth mental health service and they were great. You can look one up in your local area on google, there are many organisations that do this (I think there are links on here). Most of them are low cost as well.

Honestly I avoided getting help for ages, because I didn't understand what was going on, and I didn't want to have a mental illness. But after a while i realised i was missing out on life because of my GAD. Bed was my best friend for a while and as I am in my young 20s I didn't want to continue this way. Although I am still a work in progress I never for once second regret getting help, but i regret waiting so long to do so. And those symptoms I had when I was first diagnosed. I don't have most of them anymore (only for a flair up, but not constant) and I can enjoy life again. Good luck
