Hi there
i wanted to check if there was anyone experiencing physical symtomps to myself. I have been told by my gp that all symtopms i felt in the last 6 months are the result of anxiety, and i dont want to go back just to hear the same thing and feel like i wasted their time.
i experience these almost jolts, or what feel like flicks, in the back of my neck. It makes more of a thud or crunch npose rather than a click and occurs when im still at random times, it doesnt correlate to movement. Ive also noticed something similair to globus sensation, but rather than clicking when i swallow, its more that if i leave it there for a while there will be a loud click as if the pressure has crescendoed.
i have been checking anxiety forums for anyone describing these symtopms and have not found anyone describing something like this.
i really just want some reassurance that it is a result of anxiety so i know ive just got to deal with it myself.
Thanks

Hi Tim
I have not heard of this but just wanted to reassure you that you do not have to go through this yourself. That is why we encourage people to post here, and use the resources that are linked to this website. Please let us know whether the reactions come during or following or prior to an issue or situation you might be dealing or struggling with

Hi Tim,
Great to see you seeking a professional opinion (GP) to help you with some of the issues your having. By the way, have you tried seeing another GP for a second opinion? Or maybe even scheduled an appointment with a therapist? I suffer from GAD so some of physical symptoms you're describing now actually ring a bell for me. I sometimes suffer from tension and tingling right at the back of the neck as well and don't get the same clicking sound as you do when swallowing but sometimes feel like I have a 'lump' in the back of my throat that is only cured by swallowing. As sagebrush said, physical symptoms vary a lot from person to person (I have a few distinct ones that really bother me every now and then) but once identified and understood can be easily managed. As recommended by Quittall, some of the resources on this website are very useful as well. I always had this terrible 'cloudy feeling' before, during and even after work, university or even hanging out with friends but after I read one of the extracts on anxiety (BB website) and a bit of research myself I realized it was just a combination of nausea, dizziness and fatigue. As soon as I understood what it was this 'thing' began to not even matter anymore. And you don't have to go through this yourself - there is so much support out there (including this forum :)).
Hope this helps :))

Thanks for your responses guys
i basically have the neck symptoms all the time, with the occasioanl brain zap. Becuase its always there, im always worryinf about which probably just fuels it. It doesnt really manifest during an anxious time, unless i am sub consiously anxious all the time, which could be possible. The symptom scares me quite a bit.

35yrs ago (scary thought) I went to the dr 4 times about the lump in my throat. I was convinced there was something stuck. Of course we didn't have dr Google then, otherwise I'd have diagnosed globus sensation mysel or at least confirmed it after 1st visit. Funnily, I don't think I had anxiety then, so it was just my subconscious. Ahh yes, the quiet before the storm. I think that was 10yrs before any major episodes of anything.
Anxiety is still not a biggie for me...only brief 6mth episodes of moderate symptoms...tho I do still have the globus thing a fair bit. Easy thing to get used to really.
As for the neck thing, I am currently suffering from slipped disc in neck. This pinches nerves that supply arm and upper back. I get twinges at the bottom of the back of my neck. It is often like a burning knife being plunged in. There is also a sunburn sensation on the skin. My neck used to crunch & grind when I moved my head. I had scans 2 yrs ago & specialist said was normal for age. Now it is totally degenerated. So I was prob not imagining physical problem 2yrs ago, just that scan too early to see it.
Dr Kim has a question board here. Perhaps you could ask her if the neck thing is a known sign of GAD.

Hi Tim992,
Not sure if this will help, but I have been suffering physical symptoms all my life, all the test have always come back "All Clear", I learned after time that is was stress, anxiety, nervousness, causing the symptoms.
It is amazing what stress and anxiety can create in the way of a physical symptom..
What as also amazing that once the "All Clear" came back from the test, the symptoms stopped..
I would, as others have said.. see another Doctor for another opinion.
Hope this is of help.
Best of luck.
